Let’s Recycle! by Anne L. Mackenzie

Reading Center for Preschool Lesson Plan: Recycle

Fill your preschool reading center with books about recycling all sorts of items. Include books that have beautiful illustrations or photos of our world. Use these books to encourage your preschool students to recycle in order to keep our world beautiful.

Snacks for Preschool Lesson Plan: Recycle

A perfect example of recycling, as well as a delicious snack idea is to serve your preschool students donut holes.

Fine Motor Activity for Preschool Lesson Plan: Recycle

Shredding: Have your students shred leftover pieces of paper by tearing it with their fingers. They might also cut the paper into strips with safety scissors. Save this shredded paper (or rather, recycle this shredded paper) for the art activity below.

Gross Motor Activity for Preschool Lesson Plan: Recycle

Cycling: It’s a play on words, of course. Let your preschool students ride on tricycles and bicycles.

Art Center Activities for Preschool Lesson Plan: Recycle

Paper recycle bin: Have your students cut out a rectangle from gray construction paper and glue that onto a sheet of white construction paper. Let them glue some of the shredded paper from the earlier fine motor activity to the top of the rectangle. Now give them each a recycling sticker to put on the rectangle. Ta da! They have made paper recycling bin art!

Songs/Finger Plays for Preschool Lesson Plan: Recycle

(sing to the tune of Ten Little Indians)

One little, two little,
Three little recycle bins.
Four little, five little,
Six little recycle bins.
Seven little, eight little,
Nine little recycle bins.
Ten recycle bins to help our earth!

While you sing this song with your preschool students, you might put cutouts of recycling bins on your flannel board.

Pre-math Center Activity for Preschool Lesson Plan: Recycle

Set out the letters r-e-c-y-c-l-e that you have previously cut from felt or laminated construction paper. Put out an example of the word recycle for your students to use as a guide. Have them set out the letters, properly spelling the word recycle. Instruct your preschool students to count the number of letters in the word recycle. Now have your preschool students count out 7 recycle icons to set beneath the 7 lettered word.

Pre-writing Center Activities for Preschool Lesson Plan: Recycle

For younger students, provide sheets of paper with the letters R and r lightly printed on them. Have the children trace the letters. Do the same with the number 7.

For older students, provide an example of the letters R and r and the number 7. Have the students practice writing the letters and number freehand.

Write the word recycle on your preschool classroom’s white erase board. Let your students copy the word recycle on the white board with green dry erase markers.
