PBS’ “Kids Sprout” to Launch Live Interactive Preschool Show

PBS Kids Sprout launched as a 24-hour, preschool related television network in September of 2005. Previously only available to viewers as an On Demand series of preschool shows, the launch generated wide spread excitement due to the educational nature of the networks lineups and show choices. Now, PBS Kids Sprout is taking television preschool to a new level.

In a recent press release, PBS Kids Sprout has announced they will be launching a live preschool series on September 26. The live show called The Sunny Side Up Show, will offers children ages 2-5, a chance to view live people between their favorite shows like Barney and Friends and Bob the Builder. The on screen preschool series will run for a three hour time block and alternate the already popular preschool geared television shows currently shown on the network, with live “teacher” interaction.

The Sunny Side Up Show will be hosted by the current host of PBS Kid Sprout’s The Birthday Show, Kevin Yamada. Yamada will be joined by a Philadelphia based actress Kelly Vrooman. The hosts will be available to interact with children and parents via email question and answer forms.

As hosts of a live preschool show on line, Yamada and Vrooman will gear their dialouge toward constructive lessons like colors, manners and and pet care and education. The creators of PBS Kids Sprout hope to round out the already popular television line up with this truly interactive preschool community. According to the news release, Sandy Wax, the president of Sprout, believes “The Sunny Side Up Show [will] round out our network’s distinctive programming line-up that follows the day of a preschooler from breakfast to bedtime.

Special guests stars like Big Bird, will frequent the shows roster and offers kids a special “treat. Other puppet stars set to make appearance on The Sunny Side Up Show include Chica, a playful chicken puppet who loves the kazoo.

For parents interested in viewing the release of The Sunny Side Up Show, the first episode will be available on PBS Kids Sprout on Wednesday, September 26, at 9:00 A.M. ET. PBS Kids Sprout is currently available to more than 34 million unique households, according to the press release, and is the only totally interactive 24-hour preschool available on line, on-demand and on television.
