Papa Pita Greek Pita Flatbread: Review

A few days ago I made a chicken salad from leftover roasted chicken, and when I was doing my grocery shopping at WalMart, I was looking for pita bread to make sandwiches with my chicken salad. I was not able to find the typical pita bread, but I did find a product that was new to me, which worked even better! This product is Greek Pita bread, made by Papa Pita. It comes in a clear plastic bag, weighing 16.8 ounces, and contains six pita breads.

Description

These pita breads measure seven inches in diameter, and are extremely soft and pliable, and are about 1/4″ thick. The front of the bag has four different pictures, showing how these pita breads can be used. Shown are a pita salad sandwich, a typical cold cut sandwich, a taco, and a pizza.

Good For You!

When making a sandwich out of the Papa Pita Pita Bread, I find it is a healthy alternative to other sliced breads on the market. One serving contains only 120 calories, 1 gram of fat (0 trans fat and 0 saturated fat), 0 mg of cholesterol, 240 mg of sodium, 25 grams of carbohydrates, 1 gram of dietary fiber, 1 gram of sugar, and 4 grams of protein.

It provides 4% of your daily intake of calcium, 10% thiamine, 7% niacin, 8% iron, 8% riboflavin, and 10% folate.

Taste

The directions suggest heating up the pita bread in a 400 degree oven for 2 minutes, placing the pita directly onto the oven rack. You can also heat them in a fry pan, by lightly coating the pan with oil, then grilling on each side for 30 seconds.

The first time I made a sandwich with my Papa Pita bread, I didn’t follow the directions to heat it up. I felt that the bread was soft and pliable enough that it didn’t need to be warmed, but I learned my lesson! Because I didn’t heat it up, the bread cracked when I folded it in half. It does not do that when it’s been heated to the specified time.

Eating a chicken salad sandwich in a Papa Pita bread was a nice change from the plain old bread sandwiches. The bread is very filling, and tastes more like white bread, but is a nice addition to a meat sandwich. There are numerous recipes on the back of the bag that sound delightful! They give the following suggestions (and directions) for using these pita breads:

* Personalized Pizza
* Turkey Avocado Sandwich
* Roll-Up Taco
* All Greek Pita Roll-Ups
* Garden Veggie Sandwich
* Ranch Chicken Sandwich
* Caesar Chicken Sandwich
* Cheese & Garlic Appetizers
* Cinnamon Thins

Final Recommendation

Papa Pita Pita Bread is a very versatile product! They are easy to use, make quick meals, and you can fry them, stuff them or roll them! You can make a breakfast sandwich out of these by adding scrambled eggs and cheese, use instead of bread for a hamburger or hotdog, or you could even use them for making a Mexican meal.

They are soft and tasty, and are a nice break from the ordinary sliced bread that I have purchased my entire life. I actually like these better than a pocket pita bread, and will gladly purchase these again!
