New Product Review: Halls ProHealth Defense

Halls Pro Health Defense is a great new product! Halls has a longer standing product of the Vitamin C drops but this takes cold prevention to the next level!

Cost and Value
The cost of Halls Pro Health Defense is about $5 for a box. Right now, because the product is new, you can still find coupons for $1 off each box. You get 12 drops for this price. Compare this to Halls Defense drops. If you buy the Harvest Cherry flavor you get zinc and echinacea as well as Vitamin C. These contain 30 drops and cost $2.50. So why the increase in price? You get more ingredients which equals a higher level of defense against colds.

Taste and Flavor
The Halls Pro Health Defense comes in two flavors, citrus-pomegranate or blueberry. Both are great, but I tend to prefer the citrus-pomegranate because they taste more like the traditional Halls Vitamin C defense drops I have been buying for years. The taste of either one is pleasing. Neither flavor has a medicine taste, as you might expect with a supplement drop. They really just taste like lifesavers or hard candy with a unique flavor.

Ingredients and Benefits
The Halls Pro Health Defense dietary supplements are meant to be used in addition to taking regular multivitamins for the specific purpose of preventing colds and flu. Vitamin C has long been considered to help keep the immune system strong, thus lessening the chance a person will get a cold. The Halls Pro Health Defense adds other supplements, such as zinc, which also help boost the immune system. My favorite addition is the green tea extract, which gives you antioxidant effects as well.

Halls Pro Health Defense drops have Vitamins A, C and E. In addition, american ginseng and echinacea have been added. I don’t like the idea of an artificial stimulator like caffeine, and to me, american ginseng and echinacea are just what I would like to avoid. However, I think it is worth it for the added health value, used in moderation. I wouldn’t recommend taking the three drops per day as they say you can, but would limit it to one tablet per day. This still provides a great deal of added dietary supplement for cold prevention.

The first time I tried the Halls Pro Health Defense drops, I did feel the effects of the ginseng. I think I even had trouble sleeping that night (I avidly avoid caffeine and even natural stimulant substances.) I now take the tablets first thing in the morning, so the effect wears off and I can sleep. I have also noticed that the effects have lessened upon subsequent and regular use. (Keep in mind, one cup of coffee might keep me up for days when you are considering the effect this product might have on you!)

Purpose Achieved?
I generally believe that Vitamin C is a key to helping in the prevention of colds. These added supplements like zinc and echinacea add to the benefit. But I don’t think you can just take Vitamins and plan on being healthy. You also have to get good rest, drink plenty of fluids, and exercise regularly. My other secret is dressing really warm when going out in the cold, including scarves over the face so as not to breathe in cold air.

Overall Recommendation
I believe in this new product. Like I mentioned before, I had been taking the Vitamin C drops for years, whenever I felt I needed a boost. I think this product will really add to my immune system protection and help with cold prevention in general. The Halls Pro Health Defense will be especially beneficial in the winter during cold and flu season. We tend to eat more foods rich in Vitamin C in the summer, such as citrus fruits. The price is a little high, but I think the ingredients make it worth it. The alternative is to spend a minimum of a $15 copay and time off work for a trip to the doctor! Or, you can spend time off work eating chicken noodle soup and drinking lots of fluids once you have the cold, not to mention feeling miserable for a few days.
