Falling asleep is difficult enough for some people, but staying asleep can be even more challenging. After waking up in the middle of the night when everyone else is sleeping, the countdown begins, and trying to sleep becomes a vicious circle. Fall Asleep and Stay Asleep with White Noise

If you find that every little noise wakes you up during the night, invest in a sound machine or run a fan in the room. On cool nights point the fan away from the bed or position it toward the foot end if necessary. The natural white noise will help block out sounds from outdoors as well as sounds within the home. Once you start sleeping with a fan or a sound machine, more than likely you won’t be able to sleep without it.

Have a Bedtime Snack

Contrary to popular belief, eating before bedtime doesn’t keep people awake – depending on what they choose. We’ve all heard of people drinking warm milk before bed to encourage sleep, and it’s not just an old wives tale. Warm milk provides a healthy dose of natural tryptophan, and it can be found in other dairy products, poultry, nuts, bananas, and whole-grain oats. Tryptophan is an amino acid, and amazingly, the body converts it to serotonin and melatonin which are natural sleep inducers.
