National Oldtime Fiddler’s Contest Celebrates 60 Fabulous Years in Weiser, Idaho!

The National Oldtime Fiddler’s Contest is gearing up to celebrate its Diamond Jubilee June 18-23, 2012. Locals and visitors from around the nation will gather to celebrate 60 fabulous years of fiddling and fun.

Located approximately 73 miles northwest of Boise, Idaho, Weiser is well-known for its small town charm, family-friendly atmosphere and the most exciting fiddle festival in the nation. Held during the third full week in June, this year’s festivities will begin on Monday, June 18th and run through Saturday, the 23rd.

Fiddle Competition
The National Finals of Fiddling are held throughout the week at Weiser High School and include the Adult Division Finals, Small Fry Division, Junior Division, Twin Fiddling and Senior Division. The excitement is palpable as competitors arrive to wow audiences with their incredible talent. The competition commences on Saturday when talented fiddlers will compete for the prestigious title of Grand National Champion. Ticket information can be found online or by calling 208-414-0255.

Festival Events
In addition to the fiddling competition, the festival includes numerous fun-filled activities and events the entire family can enjoy. Take in the sights and sounds at Bluegrass Village City Park, located between E. 3rd and E. 4th Streets, for a variety of musical entertainment held Tuesday-Saturday from noon to 9:30 p.m. Numerous craft booths and specialty vendors can also be found at Bluegrass Village City Park.
As you walk your way through Weiser, the delicious aromas coming from Fiddle Vittles Road will draw you in with tasty treats such as fresh corn-on-the-cob, hot dogs, and scones that simply melt in your mouth. Top it off by sipping a refreshing lemonade while you relax under one of the beautiful shade trees in the park.
The carnival will be set up at Memorial Park from Wednesday-Saturday and is a popular attraction for kids and the young at heart.
One of my all-time favorite events held during Fiddle Week is the annual parade held on Saturday. The parade begins at noon, but you will want to find a good spot early on, preferably in the shade if it is a hot summer day. This year’s parade theme is, “Memories”, and you are sure to make some new ones as you take in this great event!

The National Oldtime Fiddlers’ Contest is an enjoyable summer favorite that you and your family will not want to miss!
