Meditation to Control Anger

Meditation is the process of bringing the mind and body to a highly relaxed state of restfulness. This can be a very spiritual experience for some people. A few of the world’s great religions have their basis in meditation. It is now considered an alternative therapy for stress-related behaviors and certain illnesses. Meditation can free our minds of the chaos of daily living. It helps us to manage our thoughts and emotions. It nurtures peace within the body and helps to bring the mind to a place of reflection and calm.

Anger is a learned response to unhappiness with our environment. It hurts everyone it touches and makes a slave of the angry person. People who are close to this person need to tread lightly in an attempt to avoid a mental or physical impact from the angry person. Any learned response is the product of repetition and can become unlearned in the same manner.

With that in mind, we should now assess the relationship between choices and control. Choices are part of our daily lives and the ability to make good choices are the by-products of nurturing and education. Poor choices bring chaos to our inner self. The choices we make depend upon the amount of control we have in the decision-making process. Making our own decisions also means that a person takes responsibility for the outcome. When no inside control is present, anger settles itself into the mind.

From birth, we learn to express our needs and feelings by crying. As a baby grows into a toddler with a limited vocabulary, tantrums take the place of crying. Tantrums are an expression of frustration. Young adults express their desire for independence through defiance or withdrawal. Mature adults either learn to control themselves or they outwardly express displeasure through anger. That anger can take many forms. It often results in broken close friendships and marriages. Often mental and physical abuse presents itself. On the other hand, the opposite may occur, and the angry person exhibits a quiet or depressive emotional state. Anger hurts and needs to be controlled.

There are some positive releases for that anger. Meditation is one of those releases. Meditation helps to control anger. Specialists in anger management recommend meditation to their clients and patients as an” alternative therapy” much more often these days. As drugs and drug abuse becomes more abundant in our society; there are two very important reasons for seeking an alternative approach to anger management.

Specialists are certain to rest easily knowing that the patient will not abuse prescription – as there is no medication involved in the process of meditation. The second more important reason is that, over time and with repetition, the patient forms a desired habit and learns to recognize that control can be exerted over actions and emotions.

Meditation is the outward sign that a level of spiritual bliss has been reached. Mastering meditation is fairly easy. Start the day by praying quietly alone. Practice endurance and forgiveness during the day. Exhibit patience toward those who need it most. Repeating these actions consistently will help gain control over anger.

When all the chaos in the mind has a chance to settle, one has reached the level of spiritual bliss. Relaxation sets in as well as focus and control. As with any therapy, meditation has an important side effect: A happy mind results in a healthy body.
