Mardi Gras Party Games

Mardi Gras is a popular time to have parties. Where there is a party, there must be fun games!

Before getting your party started, you must be sure to decorate your house with the Mardi Gras theme colors of purple, gold, and green. Be sure to set out lots of food. Then prepare for your games.

Mardi Gras is a good time to dress up in costumes. Encourage your guests to dress up, and have a costume contest. Set up an arts and crafts area so that people can create their own masks. You can order supplies from www.orientaltrading.com or shop at your local arts and crafts stores for feathers and other fun crafty supplies. Buy an assortment of beads and create your own necklaces to either keep or to give away to others.

Get your neighborhood together and create your own street-parade. Have everyone come up with their own costumes and pass out necklaces to the observers, while dancing down the street to some good old New Orleans Jazz.

Be sure to serve a King Cake. Whoever has the plastic infant in his or her piece gets to be King or Queen of the night or can win a special prize. Put multiple infants in your King Cakes and have various prizes. Make each infant or surprise different to represent a different prize.

Set out classic board games for smaller groups to play, such as Monopoly and Twister. Play group party game favorites, such as Pictionary, Scattergories, Taboo, and Charades. Make up your own trivia game. Keep several decks of cards available for all kinds of card games. Set up a poker table. Using New Orleans music, play Musical Chairs.

Have people bring their favorite Cajun-style recipes for a taste-testing extravaganza. Also try tasting different wines or people’s favorite party cocktails.

Set up some “Make Your Own” stations for assembling favorite Mardi Gras foods, such as crepes.

Pinatas are fun for both children and adults.

Where there are drinks, there will be drinking games. Find a few classics in my New Years Eve article, as well as other games that can be played at any holiday.

Remember, you have to have a lot of fun! Indulge yourselves, because you’ll have to give it all up over the following six weeks! And of course, always indulge in moderation.
