Make Musk Scented Men’s Cologne for the Holidays

Do you have a group of men on your holiday gift list? Do those men enjoy wearing aftershaves and colognes? If so, you may want to think about giving each one of them a bottle of homemade musk cologne this year. Based on my experience, musk scented cologne is fairly easy to create. Here’s how to do it:

Supplies Needed

In order to make musk scented men’s cologne, you will need 1 cup of full proof vodka, 5 drops of pure musk essential oil, 1 cinnamon stick, 1 whole nutmeg (cracked) and 1 teaspoon of grated lemon peel. You’ll also need 1 teaspoon of grated orange peel, ¼ cup of fresh rosemary, ¼ cup of fresh mint (crushed), 4 teaspoons of glycerin and 1 cup of elderflower water. As far as the tools and packaging items go, you’ll want to obtain a ½ gallon glass jar for mixing purposes and decorative glass jars for packaging purposes.

Preparing the Musk Cologne’s Base

Start the musk cologne making process by placing a broken cinnamon stick and a cracked, whole nutmeg into a clean, ½ gallon glass jar. Keep going by adding 1 teaspoon of grated lemon peel, ¼ cup of crushed mint, ¼ cup of rosemary and 1 teaspoon of grated orange peel to the ½ gallon jar. Toss the dry ingredients around inside the jar a bit. Then add 1 cup of full proof vodka to the mix. Once that’s done, seal the jar tightly and set it aside. You will need to let the jar sit undisturbed for four weeks. At the end of the four weeks, strain the mixture into a large, spotless mixing bowl.

Assembling the Musk Cologne

Continue by whipping up a batch of elderflower water. In order to make the elderflower water, you will need two cups of fresh elderflowers and two cups of water. Place the water and elderflowers into a sauce pan and bring the mixture to a fast boil. Then turn down the heat and let it simmer for 150 to 180 minutes. Afterward, strain the mixture into a medium size, glass bowl and temporarily set it aside.

Next, grab the mixing bowl with the vodka infusion in it. Then pour 4 teaspoons of glycerin, 5 drops of musk oil and 1 cup of elderflower water into it. Mix the ingredients around until they are well combine. At this point, your musk cologne is ready to be bottled and enjoyed.

Packaging the Musk Cologne

To bottle the musk cologne, carefully pour it through a funnel and into decorative glass containers. Afterward, seal the containers tightly and outfit them with a personalized label. You can typically make personalized labels using your home computer and a printer. Once that is done, you may opt to place the bottles of cologne inside gift boxes, gift bags or gift baskets. Gift boxes, bags and baskets are often available for purchase through major craft retailers and packaging stores for modest fees.
