Low Calorie Meatballs: Trader Joe’s Turkey Meatballs Review

Trader Joe’s turkey meatballs ate a low calorie meatball product I have been using for about a year now. I came across Trader Joe’s turkey meatballs in their freezer section and bought them because they are low in fat and low calorie.

Fat and Calories

Each low calorie meatball only has 50 calories, which is why I bought them in the first place. They also only have 1.5 grams of fat per meatball as well.

Now, I used to buy regular beef meatballs all the time, then I read the back of the bag. Yikes. The kind I have been buying had 18 grams of fat per meatball and well, too many calories to even discuss.

Taste

I really like the taste of these meatballs. Even though they are low calorie, they really do not taste that way. They actually taste just like regular old beef meatballs. I know this is true, not only because I eat them, but because I started serving them to my family and did not tell them about the switch.

The general comments I got were, “These taste great!” and “Mmmm.” Can’t go wrong with either of those comments!

Personally I feel like they leave me feeling less weighted down as well. No, the turkey des not make you sleepy.

Cooking

The low calorie turkey meatballs do come pre cooked, so really you are just heating them up again. I personally like to heat them up in whatever sauce I am making at the time. Usually the sauce is a marinara sauce.

You can microwave them, sauté them, and heat the low calorie meatballs in the oven. They are super convenient. The only thing I wish was different is that it would be nice if the turkey meatballs came in resalable bag.

Price

Finally, the long awaited price. Each bag costs about $3.20 at my local Trader Joe’s. This is super reasonable fo some low calorie meatballs. I personally love all the prices at my Local Trader Joe’s and can not say how happy it makes me not to have to deal with coupons and high prices.

Overall

Overall I have to say these low calorie meatballs, made from turkey, are my favorite low calorie meatballs on the market. They are a nice large size, so when you eat two you are getting about 3 ounces of meatball! They are filling, large, and taste really great. Kids, adults, and everyone in between will like these.
