Decorating cookies is not only for other holidays, so take the opportunity to create some special cookies to use in this craft for children project. You will need a dozen of large sugar cookies, frosting, sprinkles, or colored candy.

Prepare the cookies ahead of time, so you will have the cookies ready when the children gather. The color of frosting that you place on the cookies will depend on the colors of the sprinkles you use. Most of the prepared sprinkles come in a variety of colors but not purple or black. Therefore, I would prepare black and purple frosting to use as a base, spread each cookie with both colors, and then add the sprinkles of various colors for this kids crafts for Good Friday project.

Placemats are always nice and this one involves all the special colors of the holiday season. You will need a large white sheet of construction paper and smaller sizes of red, green, yellow, black, orange, purple, and pink construction paper. You will also need scissors, a glue stick, and clear contact or other means to laminate the creation so that it is waterproof. As you instruct the child how to proceed, give the meaning of the color, which is being involved.

Cut out a strip of green paper the full length of the paper and make sure it is an inch in height use the glue to attach it to the white paper across the bottom to form the grass. Cut out a white cross and glue it on the strip of green grass. Cut a circle of yellow to create the sun and glue it in the sky. Cut out small black shapes to use as rocks and place them on the grass. Add red and purple birds to the sky, cut these out of the construction paper and use the pink and orange piece of paper to create flowers that are attached to the grass.

When the construction paper craft is complete have the child sign and date it, and then a parent can cover it with the clear contact so it becomes waterproof to use on the table for Easter dinner.

For this special craft, you need only a sheet of printer paper, a coffee can, tape or glue crayons, fresh carnations, pebbles, water and imagination. Cut the paper to fit the can, and this is the canvas for your floral masterpiece. Color green grass along the bottom of the paper, a yellow sun; add a cross, some birds, and flowers in the various colors. Place some pebbles in the can for weight add water and the carnations. This makes a nice table decoration for your Easter table.
