How to Treat Pubic Lice Problem Effectively

Lice are terrible and I’m speaking from personal experience when I say that it’s really difficult to deal with them when they come on your head. The endless itching can drive any sane person mad with irritation but just imagine what will happen when you transfer those same irritating lice to your pubic hair by mistake! It could happen you know and many people have! And of course any one may have pubic lice or crabs and how on earth are you going to find out who is safe and who isn’t?

The pubic louse also called as Phthirus Pubis is usually found on pubic but you can just as easily find it on armpit hair and every beards, scalps and mustaches. But the louse is difficult to find and it causes intense itching in the groin area and rapidly spreads from person to person causing infections. But rest assured that this is strictly a human infection and animals do not get it. The nickname is derived from the fact that the insect has a crabby appearance from it nymph or larval stage and it has six legs. The front two resemble the legs of a crab with pincer like movements.

Fully grown lice are brown grey in appearance and they lay eggs in the pubic hair. These eggs appear yellow in color and when the time is right they hatch out and attach themselves to the hair shaft. The lice and the eggs are too small to be seen by the naked eye and that means you might not be able to see the lice and their eggs to get them removed. You will not get any infections from the live but they cause a tremendous allergic reaction when they bite. You may experience bumps, redness swellings and several itching that increases as the lice multiply. The lice may spread into the eye lashes and cause eye infections called as blepharitis. Lice may also spread during sexual contact from one person to another and through common shared clothing. It’s a good idea to get pubic hair shaved off as soon as you suspect a lice infection.

The lice do need blood to survive and when they fall off they can easily die due to no food supply. You cannot pick up lice from a public toilet as lice cannot survive for long on the cold porcelain of toilet seats without food. You should get in touch with a doctor to check yourself over as soon as possible to ensure that you are infected and the right process to clear the lice. If a child is infected with pubic lice then you should actively consider the fact that the child could have been or is sexually abused.

The treatment for the disease is very simple. You can use common lice killing shampoos that contain 1% permethrin or pyrethrin. These shampoos are also called as peduculicide and are prescribed for lice infections. Do check the medication as a few people can develop allergic reactions. You can also try Lindane 1% that is prescribed for lice infections. Do not give the medication to pregnant women and children unless specially prescribed by the doctor.
