How to Transfer Files to Your Android Device Over Wi-Fi

While most everyone already knows you can transfer files to your Android device by plugging it in to your computer using a USB cable, not everyone knows that they can transfer files to and from their Android device over a Wi-Fi connection as well. This can really come in handy if you happen to lose your USB cable or don’t have any slots open on your computer to plug in your Android device.

The main way to transfer files over Wi-Fi is to use an app. There are tons of apps available for Android devices that will allow you to transfer your files over a Wi-Fi network, each of them with their own features and interface. In this guide I’ll list a few of the easier to use apps.

WiFi File Transfer
WiFi File Transfer has loads of useful features along with a simple interface that is intuitive and easy to use. With WiFi File Transfer you can use the built-in file manager to delete, copy, rename, zip or unzip files.

It also has optional password authentication and lets you download or upload multiple files at the same time.

You can get the free version of WiFi File Transfer which allows you to transfer files up to 4MB here or get the pro version which doesn’t have a file size limit for $1.40 here.

Dropbox
Easily one of the best apps for transferring and managing your files across multiple devices. With Dropbox you can store your files and access them later on any device you have it installed on.

It works with Android phones and tablets, Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS devices, BlackBerry and even Kindle Fire. All you have to do is install it on each device you plan to use it with and all your files will be synced together.

You can sign up and get Dropbox for free from their website here.

WiFi File Explorer
With WiFi File Explorer you can browse, download and stream any file that is on your Android device using a web browser, and even view the pictures you’ve taken. WiFi File Explorer also has a simple layout that allows you to just drag and drop your files and directories.

You can get the free version of WiFi File Explorer here or get the pro version which has several more features such as the ability to back up your entire SD card for $0.99 here.

WebSharing File/Media Sync
Websharing has quite a few nifty features available, such as the ability to transfer bulk files and entire folders and albums at the same time. You can also stream music you have on your Android device to your computer over your WiFi connection. This allows you to keep your entire music library on your Android device and still listen to it on your computer.

You can buy WebSharing File/Media Sync for $2.99 here.

Conclusion
Once you’ve chosen an app you’ll need to install it to your Android device and then will typically have to install the PC version of the app onto your computer. From there you’re free to transfer any files you want to and from your Android device.
