How to Make Your Own Green Screen

These days, when you watch television, at times there are many effects to make the background when what is really there is simply some wall and maybe some blocks or steps that are covered in green. A computer is used to put in the background from some pictures that are available either because they are free or because they were made or bought by the producers.

Perhaps you think that you do not see this technology used because you do not watch many television shows. However, even if you watch the news or weather, you see this technology used. The maps that the show are projected onto a green screen and are not really there. The weatherperson has to look at a monitor to see where he or she is pointing. That is what makes them able to look out at the camera and not towards the wall.

If you are into making any types of films or perhaps even modified pictures, you are probably interested in owning a green screen. At this point, I will mention the part that is confusing is that even if the color is blue or pink or maybe even some other color (though, usually a green screen is either green or blue), it is still called a green screen.

There are many green screens for sale. They started out quite expensive at over $100 and now there are some that can be found for under $40. However, you still need the room if you go and buy a green screen.

Instead, you can easily make your own green screen. The only things you need are poster board (preferably green, but blue or pink work as well), clear tape (plain scotch tape works just fine), and a clear corner of a well lighted room.

First, go to the store and buy out the green (or blue or pink) poster board. If you don’t have any scotch tape, make sure that you also buy some of that.

Then, when you get home, find a corner of a well lit room where you will be allowed to record your videos and take pictures.

Tape the poster board to the wall, starting in the lower part of the corner. Make sure that you tape it up higher than the height of anybody that you will be recording. Also make sure that you tape the poster board a good length from each side of the corner, making sure that the top and the bottom is even, even taping some of the poster board onto the floor so that it is green.

The tape that you are using is clear so that you can place it on top of the poster board and not be concerned about the color changing.

Now, you have your own green screen.
