Five Reasons Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt is Making Me Smile
As the weather heats up, nothing sounds better to me on a hot day than frozen yogurt. I become somewhat addicted to it once the thermometer soars above 80 degrees. And there are no shortages of frozen yogurt shops in our community, as it may be the case in your town too. I have yet to meet a bowl of “froyo” that I haven’t enjoyed, but recently Menchie’s has pulled ahead of the pack to be my current favorite. There are several reasons why I’m going to keep going back all summer long:
Unlimited Variety. Menchie’s is one of those self-service yogurt shops. You take a cup and fill it with as many, or as few, types of yogurt and toppings as you wish. You can go simple with vanilla yogurt topped with sprinkles or create a wacky mix of pistachio pumpkin smothered in jelly bellies and bananas. Some other yogurt places offer a mix of two flavors, but at Menchie’s you can mix three, four, or even more kinds in your bowl. And since the flavors offered change on a regular basis, you’ll rarely get the same combo twice. All the flavors I’ve tried have been creamy and yummy, especially the New York Cheesecake.
Perfect Portions. The self-serve aspect allows you to have exactly the right amount for you. At other places, a small may be a bit too small or a medium a bit too big. If I take my two boys to Menchie’s, I know exactly how much each of them, and I, will eat. No waste, no gorging.
Price. Overall Menchie’s is a decent deal at $.44 per ounce (regardless of type of yogurt or topping). There’s no “deal” for buying a larger size, as there often is at other yogurt shops, so there’s no pressure to buy a size larger than you wish. The last time my sons and I ate there, we spent just over $6, which is not bad for three treats.
Rewards Card. I love it when businesses offer a loyalty program. At Menchie’s, it’s called “mySmileage,” and you get a plastic card that is swiped at the register each time you visit. Each dollar you spend earns you a “Smile” point. Earn 50 Smile points, and you get $5 in Menchie’s Money added to your account. You can check your balance on their website, and they’ll give you 25 Bonus Smiles just for registering your card online. But beware: Menchie’s only sets out one size of cups, and it’s very large. If you were to fill it to the top, you’d be paying quite a bit, with your wallet and your waistline!
Plenty of Seating. At the couple of Menchie’s I’ve been to, there were plenty of tables throughout, and outside of, the store. Some shops only offer a few tables to sit at, and those tables are often taken on a hot afternoon. But the ample seating is a plus if you feel like sitting down to have your treat, rather than eat it on the go.
