How to Make a Vintage Screen Door Folding Screen

This simple Vintage Screen Door folding screen is a great way to add a vintage touch to a room in your home. Vintage Screen Door are also a great way to draw the eye up in a space in your home. I love this simple Vintage Screen Door folding screen project because it stands all on its own. If you are renting you won’t have to worry about making another nail hole in the wall either!

To Make This Simple Vintage Screen Door Folding Screen You Will Need:

3 Vintage Screen Doors (or new ones)

Two piano hinges

Primer

Sand Paper

Paint

Roller brushes

Paint trays

Drop clothe

Power drill

Now, the first step to making this simple Vintage Screen Door folding screen is to buy your screen doors. I always come across great old vintage screen doors. You can find them at flea markets, yard sales, antique shops, and even the local Goodwill.

If you need to you can buy new screen doors made of wood at your local home improvement store. They cost as little as $30 for the simple wooden doors with screens already in them. You can paint theses, stain these, and do almost any treatment to the wood surface.

Paint the new screen doors with primer before you assemble them. Now, once the primer dries paint them out in any paint color you would like. I recommend painting the folding screen to match the existing trim in the room you will be displaying it. It will tie in nicely with your existing home décor this way. You could also paint old screen doors in bad shape.

Now, once your paint has dried on the Vintage Screen Door you can go ahead and install the hinges.

You want to install the hinges so that they open in the opposite directions from each other. This will allow your Vintage Screen Door folding screen to stand up in a stable way. Simple place you hinges in place. Mark the holes with pencil, and then pre drill them with your power drill. Now you can easily screw them in place without breaking a sweat.

Now, open the folding Vintage Screen Door screen up.

This simple Vintage Screen Door folding screen project is absolutely perfect for a bedroom, front hall, or even a large bathroom! It will add character to your beautiful home décor.

For an eclectic look try painting each door in a different vintage color. Red, robins egg blue ad lemon yellow would be fun colors.

You can also rub wood stain on the paint to age new wood screen doors.

Be sure to leave the hardware eon the wooden screen doors whether they are new or old. This is where you get a lot of the character.

You can also stencil or stamp patterns onto the Vintage Screen Door folding screen. Less is always more. So, try running small stencils or stamps along the frame of the vintage wood screen door.

If you need to replace the screen in an old wood screen door in bad shape you can find rolls of screening at your local home improvement store. It is super inexpensive to buy, so don’t let a vintage screen door in bad shape keep you from using it.
