How to Find a Good Home for Your Dog when You Can’t Take Them with You

Unfortunately many dog owners are finding that more and more places are not allowing pets. Even the ones that do allow pets seem to charge outrages monthly fees that are just not affordable for most. Because of this more and more people have to place their family dogs in homes other than their own. It can be a very difficult takes to try and find someone who is going to love and care for your pet the same way that you have, but it is possible. Following are a few ideas and suggestions that may prove to be helpful when it comes to finding your dog a new loving home. There are also a few things that you don’t want to do in order to find your pet a loving home.

The first thing that you can do is ask some of your family and friends if they would be willing to take your dog. If your family and friends are willing to take the dog this will at least provide you comfort in the fact that you will still be able to see them from time to time. If you have tried all of your relatives and friends and no one is willing or able to take your dog than it would be time for you to put an ad in the newspaper. Lots of people advertise this way, and put prospective owners through an interview process in order to make sure that they are the right fit for their dog. This process can take up to a month to complete. Some dog owners prefer to allow their dog some time to visit their prospective home and owners, and see if they would adjust well to their new environment. Some animals just do not adjust very well to certain environments. This will also allow your dog some time to adjust and get used to being around their new owners.

One thing that you don’t want to do is allow a pound or animals shelter to find a home for your pet. Unfortunately the majority of shelters do not make the efforts that loving owners do, and your dog could end up spending months in an animal shelter. Some pets have even just given up and stopped eating and drinking water, because they are so unhappy. No one wants to think of their beloved pet going through this. The best thing to do would be to allow yourself several weeks to find a loving owner for your pet. You should also not limit yourself to just your state. Their may be a good loving family in another state, who would love to have your dog as a member of their family. So when you advertise doesn’t just stick to your state try other states around yours? You can advertise in their local newspapers and the fee is usually pretty reasonable. With the proper amount of time and effort you should have no problem finding a loving home for your dog.
