How to Decorate a Bottle Victorian Style

There are so many ways to make unique, inexpensive décor for your home. One way to create pieces that are both functional and useful is to decorate small bottles Victorian style. These Victorian bottles can be filled with bath sales, bubble bath, candies, and other necessities and displayed throughout your home. These artsy bottles with a Victorian flair have a lot of character and are much more beautiful than ordinary storage bottles. Here’s how to decorate a bottle Victorian style:

E-6000 or cement glue

How to decorate a bottle Victorian style: Gather your supplies

You can buy bottles at your local craft store that have cork closures that work very nicely for this project. If your local craft store doesn’t have suitable glass bottles, you may be able to find them at Pier One Imports or online. Decide what you’d like to store in the bottles after you decorate them as this will determine the size you select. You can find E-6000 glue at your craft store. (use this glue with good ventilation). While you’re at the craft store, purchase some small, lace doilies, ribbon roses, and brass charms to decorate your bottles. You may already have interesting buttons lying around your house that will work for this project. Buttons with a vintage look work well.

How to decorate a bottle Victorian style: Apply the doily as a base

Position a glass bottle on the surface of your table top and glue a lace doily in the center of the bottle using E-6000 or cement glue. The doily will serve as a pretty base for the Victorian collage you’re about to create on the front of the bottle. Allow the doily to dry for at least twenty minutes.

How to decorate a bottle Victorian style: Get creative

It’s time to get creative with your embellishments. Arrange various buttons, brass charms, and ribbon roses in an interesting collage pattern on the surface of the bottle. Try a variety of different designs and patterns to get the most pleasing effect. There’s no right or wrong here. Be sure to let a little of the underlying doily show through to add even more Victorian flair. Once you’re satisfied with the arrangement, glue each piece to the surface of the bottle using E-6000. Once the items are glued, allow the bottle to remain flat on the table so the components can dry for at least several hours. Once the glue is dry, you can admire your new creation.

You can do some interesting variations using this theme. Use black tea to darken the doily and give it a vintage look before gluing it to the bottle. You can also give your Victorian charms an antique look by covering them with black paint and wiping the paint off of the high surfaces. Black paint will remain in the crevices giving depth to your charm. You can also glue some buttons or ribbon roses to the top of your cork stopper if you desire.
