How to Craft Unique Flower Pots

Learn how to craft unique flower pots, just by incorporating a few interesting elements. With these easy to follow steps you can turn a boring flower pot into a unique container for displaying fresh or silk flower arrangements.

Cinnamon Stick Flower Pots
A cinnamon stick flower pot is a fragrant and homey container that looks charming with a live plant or flowers inside.

Materials:

plastic or Terra Cotta pot
cinnamon sticks (enough to cover the exterior of the pot and tall enough)
scissors
hot glue gun/glue
twine-raffia or ribbon
floral foam
fresh or silk flowers

Directions:

Begin by gluing the cinnamon sticks around the outside of the pot. Make sure to keep the bottoms even. Trim the cinnamon sticks if necessary, keeping the tops slightly irregular. Wrap a piece of twine-raffia or ribbon around the middle of the pot and tie it into a bow.

Now place a piece of floral foam inside of the pot, making sure it fits snug. Insert fresh or silk flowers into the foam. If using fresh flowers, make sure to saturate the foam with water before inserting the flowers.

Tip: You can also purchase a live plant, keep it in the original pot and cover it with cinnamon sticks using the method above.

Moss Covered Flower Pots
A moss covered pot has a well weathered look and looks great filled with a dried floral arrangement or a live plant.

Materials:

Terra Cotta or stone pot
sheet moss
spray adhesive
scissors
rubber band
floral foam
dried flowers

Directions:

Spray the outside of the pot generously with a coat of adhesive. Roll the sheet of moss around the outside of the pot and press it firmly so it adheres to the sides. Cut away any of the excess. Wrap a rubber band around the pot to hold the moss in place while it is drying. For a dry floral arrangement, place a piece of floral foam into the pot, making sure it fits snug.

Insert the dried flowers into the foam and create a floral arrangement. To use a live plant, remove the plant from it’s original container (soil and all). Insert it into the moss pot and add additional potting soil if needed.

Ribbon Covered Flower Pots
A ribbon covered flower pot is a fun way to create a pot of color. You can use solid colors or prints to create a whimsical look.

Material:

Terra Cotta pot
spray adhesive
gross grain ribbon
scissors
floral foam
fresh or silk flowers

Directions:

First you will need to determine whether to run the ribbon vertically or horizontally. Once you have figured out the design, cut the gross grain ribbon to the length you will need. Spray a generous amount of the adhesive to the outside of the pot. If you have chosen to place the ribbon vertically, line the ribbon from the bottom up, leaving enough ribbon to turn the top edge over the rim of the pot. Continue adding the ribbon with the sides touching, all the way around the pot. To add the ribbon horizontally, begin from the bottom and work towards the top again with the sides of the ribbon touching.

Insert floral foam into the pot, making sure it fits snug. Insert fresh or silk flowers into the foam. If using fresh flowers, make sure to saturate the foam with water before inserting the flowers.

You now have the steps necessary to create three different and unique flower pots. Start crafting and enjoy!
