Homeade Wedding Presents: Scavenger Hunt Ideas

An interesting homemade wedding present suggestion for the bride and groom is to send them on a little treasure hunt adventure. Now this can get extremely costly so it works best if several people go in on it. Unless of course, it is affordable and appropriate to give this complex gift by some one who would be spending that much naturally, say in the instance of the bride and/or groom having wealthy parents who are looking for a “big” special present for their children’s wedding.

I’ve experienced this treasure hunt idea as a gift first hand in slightly different context, but I believe the excitement of the event would be the same. Any instance, it was my father’s second wedding and he and my stepmother to be wanted to make my sister, my new stepbrother and I feel a part of the celebration. It was their homemade wedding present to us. We were just kids at the time, but if certain factors were adjusted to be more appropriate for the actual wedding couple, the gift is still very appropriate. And in my opinion, one of a kind.

Basically what will take place during this scavenger hunt idea is this: the bride and groom (or husband and wife, depending on when you decide you want this to take place) will be driven around town in a limousine, just the two of them. They will have to solve riddles and make decisions based on clues you’ve prepared in order to know where to tell the limo driver to go. Then, once they get to the right place, which in most cases will be some sort of store or specialty shop, they need to speak to the owner or someone at the front checkout counter and this person will give them a gift and in that gift somewhere will be a little piece of paper with the clue of where to go next in this scavenger hunt idea. They will then tell the limo driver to drive to that place, where they will get another gift and clue, etc. This will go on a few times and as long as the gift giver decides to make it last. If you, the gift giver are on a tighter budget than what this seems to entail, know that it is quite acceptable to only provide small tokens of items as gifts for the couple at the specialty shops. Trust me, the limo alone and the fun of solving the riddles will be good enough to call it a decent, no, awesome gift.

To plan out these sort of scavenger hunt ideas for a couple as a wedding gift suggestion, it is most fun to surprise them with the limousine. Tell them you wish to take them out for brunch one Sunday and that you will be picking them up and have them get dressed up nicely. Then, give the limo driver all of the instructions as far as the correct route he or she will be expected to drive and reserve a few hour blocks, remembering that the time will vary depending on how quick the couple is with solving the clues. Be sure to tell the limo driver everything that is going on, in addition to giving them a copy of each riddle and answer. This driver will really be the only one with the couple for the entire adventure, so it is important that at least someone knows what is going on in case a clue or treasure hunt idea is simply too hard to figure out or for if some odd reason a clue is missing or something happens to go awry at one of the stores. They don’t have to be actively involved but just available in case they need to be.

Stock the limousine cooler with some sparkling champagne or a nice refreshing celebration beverage of your choice that the couple will enjoy. Put some non alcoholic drinks inside too, as you never know whether or not one of them or both of them want to drink on this particular day, for whatever reason. It is also fun to have the limo driver hand each of them a nice pretty rose as they enter the car. And tell the limo driver to remain aloof, so as to keep the couple in shock upon first arrival, but have he or she hand them an envelope along with the roses. In the envelope, you will have already prepared a little note card of explanation about this scavenger hunt idea, basically stating that they are going on a treasure hunt and will use the clues found in each gift to know where to tell the limo driver to go next.

Good scavenger hunt ideas for gifts on this adventure are: A visit to the couple’s favorite restaurant for a gift certificate; various wedding style presents at a few different specialty shops around town; perhaps tickets to a sports game in the area or a play or musical; something fun and childlike, such as tickets to a carnival, to an amusement park or a miniature golf course. Depending on the area you live in, what’s available there and what your bride and groom require as a fun time for themselves, you can adjust these ideas to the situation’s specific needs. Just remember that the limo time costs money, usually by the hour, so you want to keep the various stop locations fairly close together in proximity. But still, not too close that the couple has no time to relax and sit back for a little drive, which will allow time for them to soak in the wonder of this special treasure hunt idea as their coolest gift.

For the very last stop, make it extra exciting for the couple so it doesn’t feel to them like the whole adventure or scavenger hunt idea just crashes after getting a few great things. The best bet is to have their last clue take them back home, instead of the driver just saying “okay, ride’s over, time to go home”. If the clue takes them home, and there is something there for them to look forward to, it sort of eases them into the end of the trip. If you and whoever else is involved in the gift giving and creation process part of the treasure hunt idea are at the house waiting for them to give them hugs and proper congratulations that would be ideal. Surely, they will be amazed by this kind homemade wedding present and anxious to tell you all about it.

So plan carefully, be sure to keep the limo driver informed and make the clues challenging but not impossible. It’s a good idea too to just have the limousine driver call you to check in after picking them up, if he or she does so discreetly. Perhaps when they are in the first shop, the limo driver can make a quick call. That way you will be sure that everything about the scavenger hunt idea was off to a great start. This can be a really fun homemade wedding present for everyone involved if you take care in planning and put the package together with love and thoughtfulness. The bride and groom will likely remember this as one of their best wedding gifts ever.
