Have Fun with a Campers’ Scavenger Hunt

For a new camping activity hold a Campers’ Scavenger Hunt. This is a lot of fun when you are camping with a group of family or friends. They’ll be running all over the campgrounds, making new friends along the way! It will be easy to plan and hold a Scavenger Hunt for your next camping trip with these ideas.

Plan Your Campers’ Scavenger Hunt

At home, make up scavenger lists with items that scavenger hunters will use. Make an original and then make copies for everyone that will be participating. Have an equal amount of easy and hard items to find. Be sure to take into account the ages and health of all of the scavenger hunters. Get bags ready to give to each team to carry and collect their scavenged items.

Some ideas for a camping scavenger hunt:

Before the scavenger hunt, talk to fellow campers that you and the scavenger hunters don’t know. Make sure they will participate and be at their campsite when you hold the scavenger hunt. Ask them what their names are or where they are from. Maybe one of them has an interesting career or hobby. Have scavenger hunters go from campsite to campsite to find these people and write down their campsite number.

Find a packet of microwave popcorn from campers in the campgrounds.

Find a certain type of leaves, rocks, or other nature item.

Find a campsite that will give you a s’more!

Find a wooden match.

Find a hot dog and a stick to cook it on after the scavenger hunt.

Find a piece of wood to put on the campfire.

Find a blue T-shirt or bathing suit.

If you are awarding prizes to the winners buy or make those before you leave for your camping trip. These can be as simple as a box of graham crackers for the 1st place team, chocolate candy bars for the 2nd place team, and a bag of marshmallows for the 3rd place team. The winners can share the prizes as everyone enjoys s’mores!. It’s all about having fun after all!

Hold Your Campers’ Scavenger Hunt

Let all scavenger hunters know what day and time the hunt will be held so they can plan for it. If it is held at night make sure they all have working flashlights.

Divide the campers into teams. Make sure that all children have at least one adult with them. Give each team a collection bag and the scavenger hunt list. You can set a time limit or just wait until all teams come back to a designated campsite.

You will hear laughter ringing out through the campgrounds from the scavenger hunt. Both scavenger hunters and fellow campers enjoy this game.
