Children’s Claritin 24-Hour Allergy Relief: A Must-Have for Parents of Toddlers

Millions of children suffer from seasonal allergies with symptoms such as itchy and watery eyes, runny nose and sneezing. There are many products to relieve the symptoms, but there are a limited number of those that can be used by children as young as two years old. My daughter suffers from seasonal allergies and I found it difficult to find an effective treatment for her age group. Her allergies caused her eyes to become red and watery, often with mucus forming around her eyes. Her nose was constantly runny and she sneezed often.

I made a trip to Wal-Mart and found a two ounce bottle of Children’s Claritin 24-hour Allergy Relief for about six dollars. It relieves itchy nose or throat, sneezing, itchy or watery eyes, and runny nose. It contains no alcohol or dye and is available in two flavors, grape and fruit; the grape flavor is sugar-free. A four ounce bottle costs around ten dollars. Children’s Claritin is also available in chewable tablets and fast dissolving RediTabs.

The RediTabs and chewable tablets come in a package of ten tablets. Claritin’s RediTabs are only for children over 6 years of age and costs about twelve dollars. The chewable tablets are safe for children over two years of age and it costs about ten dollars. Both products provide the same relief and last twenty-four hours. These products were created to be more convenient and easier to administer. You can find these products in the cold or allergy section of your local drugstore or retail chain such as Target, Wal-Mart, or Walgreens.

The line of Children’s Claritin products use 5mg of Loratadine, an antihistamine which blocks histamine, a chemical produced by the body’s immune system in response to the exposure to a harmless substance such as pollen or dust. Side effects to the drug are minimal if any should occur. In clinical trials, less than four percent of children reported experiencing: nervousness, fatigue, hyperactivity, wheezing, abdominal pain, conjunctivitis, malaise, voice changes, or upper respiratory tract infection.

It is quite possible the only allergy medicine that specifically states it is safe for children two years of age and up. Furthermore, I have not found another medicine that can compete with Claritin’s effectiveness. It truly lasts up to twenty-four hours and eliminates her symptoms. It does not cause drowsiness and I did not notice any of the possible side effects. After my daughter takes a small amount of the medicine, she no longer experiences the symptoms she was experiencing. I highly recommend Children’s Claritin if your child is experiencing symptoms common from seasonal allergies.
