Garrett Ace 250 Metal Detector Review

The Garrett Ace 250 metal detector is at the top of the list for people just getting started in treasure hunting. It sports some advanced features, is priced right at around $225 street price, has great sensitivity, and the majority of current owners appear to be well-pleased with it’s performance.
The unit comes with an instruction manual and DVD that explain the Garrett Ace 250 features, LCD panel, and provides details about proper operating procedure. The instructional material also gives you with some great metal detecting tips and tricks.

The Ace 250 is relatively light at 2.7 pounds, and the LCD panel provides you with accurate indicator readings. In fact, the Garrett Ace 250 features one of the market’s most advanced LCD graphic screens for quick, easy and accurate visual target ID.

Beginners will find that the 5 pre-set hunting modes will allow them to get started quickly without the need for custom adjustments. Many users found that the sensitivity of the Garrett Ace 250 exceeded their expectations. Overwhelmingly, most owners praise the model’s above average coin finding ability.

Another plus for the Garrett Ace 250 and other Garrett metal detectors, is the company’s responsive customer service. Several owners have commented on the efficiency and helpful nature of customer support personnel. This is especially beneficial if you are new to metal detecting and treasure hunting.

Shortcomings

Some buyers have expressed concern about lack of accuracy in the Pinpointing feature. Most metal detectors don’t have this feature and require the use of a separate pinpointing tool to help zero in on potential finds. Still, others claim that when used properly, the Ace 250’s built-in pin pointer gets the job done.

Another common complaint is that the unit has no volume control knob. However, there are many top-end models from various manufacturers with this same shortcoming. The solution to this issue is a good set of detector earphones with it’s own volume control.

While it is an excellent metal detector for pinpointing and finding coins, some owners feel that it falls a little short when it comes to hunting for gold. However, don’t let this bother you. Once you get a little time in the hobby, you will learn that this problem can be easily resolved by purchasing a more specialized, interchangeable detector coil.
