Diner Dash 2, available for download at most major online game sites, including Yahoo!, is the continuation of the very popular game, Diner Dash. The premise of the first game was that the main character, Flo, grew tired of her office job and wanted to own a restaurant. She faced opposition from a big name restauranteur who wanted to “monopolize” the area, but it was your job to help her bring in customers and money to the restaurants she created. Flo, being successful in her own ventures, has come back to help rescue a series of small restaurants from takeover.
Diner Dash 2 has some new features that the original Diner Dash left out. There are still the customers from the old game: older men, business women, chatty teenagers, and young executives, but now the list includes a few more. You now have the privilege of serving some new diners, such as a family of four and “cell phone junkies.” The family has a young child and a baby, so you must be quick about bringing a “high chair” and serving them, because slowness results in a crying baby and mad customers. The customers haven’t gotten any more patient. If you don’t move quickly, they’ll be gone in a flash.
A really fun addition to Diner Dash 2 is the ability to renovate and decorate the restaurant. In the old Diner Dash, completing each goal gave you the choice of items like extra tables and entertainment. In this version, completing a goal allows you to choose what the tables will look like, what color the tile should be, and what kind of entertainment to have. An extra incentive for getting an “expert” score is a third choice instead of the regular two.
The graphics seem to be a lot nicer in Diner Dash 2, and the color seems to be brighter. The characters appear to be more animated. The game play is basically the same. You must seat customers at tables as quickly as possible, take their order, bring their meal, give them the check, and clean the table. As before, chaining together events, like taking several orders in a row, will bring you more points, and seating people in chairs that match the color of their outfit will also bring more points. If people get mad and leave, you still lose 500 points.
Diner Dash 2 is fun during the free trial, but the price of $19.99 for a full download seems a bit high. I did pay for the original Diner Dash, but I bored of it long before I felt like I got my money’s worth out of it. While the new additions are fun to play with, the game is still the same, and it became monotonous to me after a short time. Also, some levels are nearly impossible, and playing the same one over and over becomes aggravating. I would recommend the full download of Diner Dash 2 to anyone who really enjoyed Diner Dash, because they are going to have a blast. If you were only sort of impressed with the first version, try out the hour long free download, but I think you may feel, like I did, that the $19.99 isn’t worth it.
