Free Summer Activities and Events in Lewisville, TX

As the school year winds down and the weather warms up people begin to think about activities both outside enjoying the summer sun and indoors to benefit from air conditioning. And with all the demands on our money, events and activities which are free are even more welcome. With that in mind, below is a list of various things to do in Lewisville, Texas this summer which are free to the public, for both kids and adults.

Sounds of Lewisville is in its 18th year and is divided into two parts, summer and fall. The summer series will be held at the Vista Ridge Amphitheater, 3049 Lake Vista Drive, which is just south of the Vista Ridge Mall. It is free for all ages. The concerts will be every Tuesday starting at 7:30 pm and ending at 9:30 pm from June 5, 2007 through July 24, 2007, with the exception of July 4, 2007. Seven regional acts have been scheduled, with music genres ranging from jazz to country to rock. Alcohol, glass containers, and pets are not permitted, and people attending the concerts are invited to bring blankets or lawn chairs as the stone seating might be uncomfortable to some. In addition, you can vote on the performances every week.

Chess Night at Borders Books and Music, 2403 South Stemmons Highway Suite 100, is held every Thursday starting at 7:00 pm from April 19, 2007 through August 30, 2007. It is free for all ages.

Storytime at Barnes and Noble Booksellers, 2325 South Stemmons Freeway, Suite 401, is held every Thursday at 10 am from April 19, 2007 through July 12, 2007. This free activity is for kids ages 3-6.

Saturday Stories at Barnes and Noble Booksellers, 2325 South Stemmons Freeway, Suite 401, is held every Saturday at 11:00 am from April 21, 2007 through July 14, 2007. This free activity is for kids ages 5-8.

Free Comic Book Day on May 5, 2007 at TNT Collectibles, 618 S. Mill Street. This event celebrates the independent comic book specialty stores. It is for all ages.

Red, White, and Lewisville Fireworks and Festival on July 4, 2007 will be at the Vista Ridge Mall, 2401 S Stemmons Freeway. Activities will include live entertainment inside the mall during the day, music on the main stage outside the mall in the evening, and a fireworks show beginning shortly after full dark. This free activity is for all ages.

National Night Out on August 7, 2007 will be at the Memorial Park Recreation Center, 1950-B South Valley Parkway. It is a family concert. The nationwide program is used to heighten crime prevention awareness and encourage community participation. This is free for all ages.

Remember, whatever you choose to do over the summer months doesn’t have to cost a lot of money. And there’s probably more to do closer to home than you realize. Enjoy!
