Facts About the Winchester Mystery Mansion

What exactly is the Winchester Mansion? Granted it is huge, but why is there still such excitement about this mansion? This is about the best-known California mansion, simply because it was under construction for 38 years and is the home of the heir to the Winchester fortune.

By 38 years, I mean, continuously for 38 years, 24 hours a day, seven hours, seven days a week during under the 365 days a year. Some building was always going on in there some kind of building.

The construction went on in the Mansion, while Sarah while Winchester lived there. She was told by a medium, that the ghosts of the people we been killed by the Winchester rifle’s had put a curse on her family, and the only way to add PCs ghost was to go ahead and continue building all this time.

Sarah died in 1922, and that is when building stopped. If she were to build that mansion in today’s economy, would easily exceed over the $5.5 million. $5.5 million is a lot of money, no matter how you look it, it does not matter which decade it was that still a lot of money.

A psychic told, Sarah Winchester, the mansion was cursed, and so began Sarah on this unending quest to build this immaculate mansion. The psychic told Sarah the she also was cursed, and Sarah believed it. This I went on to say as long as construction when I am like that within the home Sarah would live, however, is Sarah stopped building she would die.

Sarah inherited $20 million, when her husband died back in 1881, and she got almost 50% of the Winchester gun company. This gun company gave Sarah an income of nearly a thousand a day to live on way back in 1881 by today’s standards; this would be like having, but $22,000 a day to play with.

With Sarah’s grief over the loss of her husband and daughter, it was no wonder that this psychic was able to pull such a con job on for Sarah. Sarah believed the psychic totally, and over the next 38 years, most of her money would be spent building this mansion, which would never be finished.

At one time, this immaculate mansion was seven stories high, however to that add natural disasters such as the earthquake of 1906, the Mansion currently stands at its highest point with only four floors.

Within this mansion, there are 40 bedrooms, most of which were never even slept in along with 160 other rooms. There were two huge ballrooms where dances could be held, up to 6 kitchens and 950 doors within the mansion. The home also has 47 fireplaces, 17 chimneys, 2 separate basements, and 3 elevators.

There are doors, stairways, and windows placed in random areas, just so she could keep on building. Some of these doors opened on to blank walls, and some of the stairs went to the ceiling.

There is no set theme for this home; there are many colors through out the building, and many different building materials. There are silver and gold chandeliers, in many rooms within this home. This mansion has many different approaches to building and is a historical landmark in San Jose, California.
