Don Imus Back on the Air

According to numerous reports and a detailed biography on Biography.com, Don Imus, the man we love to hate, has returned to the air waves as of today, Dec.3rd. broadcasting to nearly 30 million homes on WABC – AM and RFD -TV. Rev. Al Sharpton, who was one of the main voices of getting Imus fired, was also one of the strongest one who allowed him to return to radio.

Those who listened to Imus were nearly floored when on April 4,2007 a discussion between Imus about the NCAA Basketball Championship got a little out of hand. Imus who we all know has no filter, made the comment, “That’s some nappy-headed hos there. I’m gonna tell you that now, man, that’s some-woo. And the girls from Tennessee, they all look cute, you know, so, like-kinda like-I don’t know.”

Imus did go on to regret the publicity that the comment had generated. When opening his show this morning, Imus went on to introduce his fellow radio celebrities as well as Bernard McGuirk who was fired right along with Imus in April 2007. During the introduction, Imus made the comment the remarks that had been made were “reprehensible” and the women were “innocent people“ and did not deserve to made fun of. He also vowed to his listeners that his program would not change.

Imus all started when a small station in Palmdale, California in 1968 hired him as their radio personality. Using his different style of wittiness and a controversial humor, Imus was sure on the way to fame. His eccentric personality would have the direct impact of people loving him or hating him. There would be no in between for Imus. Although very insulting at times, Imus in the Morning went for 25 years on radio and an another 11 years on MSNBC until it was canceled on April 12, 2007.

Although many people dislike the way Imus runs his mouth, the fact is, is that he is a good man regardless of any of the controversial comments he has made in the past or will make in the future. The man of 1000 insults is a giver, on April 12, 2007, the same day he was let go, Imus hosted the 18th Annual WFAN Radiothon that benefits the Imus Ranch, Tomorrow’s Children Fund and the CJ Foundation for SIDS. These amazing charities help to raise money on the awareness of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome as well as help build Don Imus / WFAN Pediatric Center for Tomorrow’s Children.

So when you judge someone over their comments made, remember not everyone keeps everything inside. Remember that Imus might have a big mouth, and might insult many people, but his efforts to help others does not go without praise. Imus has also helped raise nearly six million dollars towards the Center for the Intrepid, which is a rehabilitation hospital that cares for soldiers who have been wounded in Iraq and need medical assistance as well as help rejoining their community.

Many people judge a book by it’s cover, it’s what’s inside that book that makes all the difference. I myself wish him the best of luck in his new venture and best of luck with his family.
