Crock Pot Recipes: Desserts, Sweets, and Snacks

Not only can you create hearty meals using your crock-pot, you can also make fabulous desserts, scrumptious sweet treats, and tasty snacks. Triple Chocolate Delight

Serve this crock-pot recipe with double vanilla ice cream.

Ingredients:

1 box chocolate cake mix
1 pint sour cream
1 package instant chocolate pudding
1 bag milk chocolate chips
¾ cup vegetable oil
4 eggs
1 cup water

Preparation:

It is best to use a smaller crock-pot for this recipe, preferably 3-4 quart. Spray crock-pot with vegetable cooking spray. Mix all ingredients in separate bowl. Pour into crock-pot. Cook on low for 6-8 hours.

Easy Yellow Cake Cobbler

This crock-pot recipe takes only a few ingredients. Adapted from thriftyfun.com.

Ingredients:

1 package (18 ¼ ounces) yellow cake mix
1 can (21 ounces) cherry, triple berry, or apple pie filling

Pour pie filling into crock-pot. Combine dry cake mix and melted butter; mixture will be crumbly. Sprinkle over pie filling. Add walnuts if desired. Cover and cook on low for 2-3 hours.

Crock Pot Fruit Compote

This crock-pot recipe adapted from Quick Cooking magazine Nov/Dec 2003.

Ingredients:

2 cans (29 ounces each) sliced peaches, drained
2 cans (29 ounces each) pear halves, drained and sliced
1 can (15 ¼ ounce) apricot halves, drained and sliced
1 can (20 ounces) pineapple chunk, drained
1 can (21 ounces) cherry pie filling
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Preparation:

In a 5-quart crock-pot, combine the peaches, pears, apricots, pineapple, cinnamon, and vanilla. Top with pie filling. Cover and cook on high for 2 hours or until heated through. Serve over ice cream, angel food cake, or just serve on it’s own.

Crock Pot Snack Mix

Use your crock-pot to make this time-honored favorite.

Ingredients:

7 cups assorted cereals such as Crispix, Chex, or Cheerios
1 cup peanuts or mixed nuts
1 cup mini pretzel sticks or small cheese crackers

Combine cereals, nuts or crackers, and pretzels in slow cooker.

Mix melted butter with remaining ingredients and pour over the cereal mixture, tossing to coat.

Cook uncovered on high for 2 hours, stirring about every 30 minutes. Turn to low and cook another 2 to 6 hours.

Homemade Crock Pot Caramel

Use this crock-pot recipe to make the following candy recipe.

Ingredients:

2 cans (14 ounces each) sweetened condensed milk.

Preparation:

Pour milk into crock-pot. Cover and cook on low 8 -10 hours. Check progress after 6 hours. Cook until caramelized and has a warm golden color. Serve over ice cream.

Turtle Candy

Candy recipe from the kitchen of Francie Barnes, my mom.

Ingredients:

Homemade Crock-Pot Caramel
1 16-ounce bag whole pecans
1 12-ounce bag semi-sweet chocolate chips, melted in microwave or double boiler

Preparation:

Place the following ingredients on waxed paper. Arrange three pecans together, pointed ends touching. Cover with a tablespoon of caramel. Let caramel set 15 minutes. Top with a tablespoon of melted chocolate. Use as much or as little caramel and chocolate as you like. Repeat until pecans are gone.

Crock Pot Glazed Pecans

This crock-pot recipe is perfect to serve at the holidays. Adapted from about.com.

Ingredients:

16 ounces pecan halves
½ cup melted butter
½ cup confectioners’ sugar
¼ teaspoon ground allspice
¼ teaspoon ground ginger
1-3/4 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Preparation:

Place pecans and butter in a 3 1/2- to 4-quart crock-pot. Stir until combined. Add confectioners’ sugar and stir to coat. Cover and cook on high for 15 minutes. Uncover crock-pot and cook on low 2 hours or until nuts are glazed and slightly crispy.

Transfer crock-pot ingredients to bowl. Combine remaining spices and sprinkle over nut mixture until coated. Let pecans cool before serving.
