Color Ideas for Siding and Shutters

Drive past neighborhoods that were developed within the past ten years and you will notice many tan homes with shutters in a variety of colors. Tan still seems to be the most prevalent color for siding, and although it is neutral, it is an exterior decorating fad that is about to end. A few years from now, homes sided in one of many shades of tan will appear dated, especially when most of the other houses on the street are the same drab hue. Come up with classic ideas or more original hues when seeking color combinations for siding and shutters. Do not follow what everyone else is still doing. Tan is on the way out!

Opt for Classic Crisp White Siding with Black Shutters

When my last home was built, I decided to go with classic color options for the siding and shutters. I chose white siding and black shutters for my Cape Cod style home, it looked opulent and very impressive. I knew that in ten, twenty or even fifty years, the color combination would still look great. It is a classic color grouping that will never go out of style. Unlike the tan neighborhoods that are very common today, you will not find entire blocks of white houses with black shutters.

Consider Pebble Gray Siding and Burgundy Shutters

Pebble gray is a beautiful natural hue for siding, and burgundy is an excellent color choice for shutters. They look fantastic together. It is a color combination that is not real common, but it is not unusual or questionable either. It can be highlighted by landscaping filled with beautiful maroon chrysanthemums, peonies, baby’s breath, sweet alyssum and other burgundy and white blooms.

Opt for Misty Blue Siding with Deep Brown Shutters

Blue and brown are one of my favorite color combinations for home interiors, exteriors, clothing and more. If I planned on buying siding and shutters for a new home, I would seriously consider misty blue siding with deep brown shutters. The color combination is gorgeous. The brown beautifully compliments the blue, and it is not a color fad that will eventually date the home. It is eye pleasing and highly impressive.

Consider Light Sage Siding and Hunter Green Shutters

Do not be afraid to consider color ideas that are not at least partially neutral. Go with something natural instead. Light sage siding and hunter green shutters look fantastic together. Green is an excellent choice for shutters and siding, especially since it is the most prevalent color in nature. Every flower and shrub will look great against a green backdrop, especially those on the cool side of the spectrum. Purple blooms are lovely against light sage green, and the landscaping options are limitless.

In any case, consider color ideas that you prefer instead of those that most others currently using. Forget about going with one of countless shades of tan when siding and trimming your home. Add color to your life! Your home is a reflection of your style and personality, and it should appear bold and unique.
