Colgate Total Toothpaste – Product Review

As a person who is concerned with good oral hygiene, I decided to try Colgate Total Mint Stripe Gel Toothpaste. I like to change up on dental products to be ensured that I am giving my teeth the best care possible. Having experienced a severe case of gingivitis many years ago, I am open to trying products that help with the prevention of it.

Recently I purchased a box of this product at a Dollar General store. The price was a hefty $2.75 which I thought a little high for my wallet. The net weight is 6.0 ounces or 170 grams. It is ADA accepted by the American Dental Association. That is a good thing since they are generally considered the “big brother” of dental care.

The packaging makes for an attractive shelf display. It is quite exquisite in appearance. There’s no doubt it will catch the consumer’s attention. On the front cover the word Colgate clearly and boldly stands out in white letters on a red background. This background is superimposed on a red surface. Surrounding the entire box are green mint-colored stripes that gently remind you of the product name-Mint Stripe Gel.

On the back side of the packaging are the drug facts, active ingredients, uses, warning and directions for use. There is a toll-free telephone number should there be questions, comments or suggestions. Towards the side you see the UPC code. This code comes in handy if a rebate is ever offered.

As you continue turning the box you will see a clock icon with a reminder that says, “Brush at least twice a day and you’ll know your teeth are cleaner and your breath will be fresher around the clock”. This product is distributed by the Colgate-Palmolive Company in New York, NY. Their website can be found at www.colgatetotal.com.

According to it claims listed on the box, Colgate helps prevent cavities, gingivitis, plaque and fights tartar buildup. The side flap top has a lot number and expiration code. Should there ever be a recall this number would be what to look for.

Upon taking it from the box there was a flip lid on the tube top. It felt comfortable in my hand. I squeezed a little on my toothbrush and began brushing. The mint taste was pleasant and welcoming. It was not stingy in sensation. Upon cleaning my teeth there was no residual or offensive effects left in my mouth. I felt like I could comfortably talk with someone, knowing my breath was fresh.

I intend to use it interchangeably with other brands because of the expense. Perhaps if coupons or rebates were offered, my loyalty would be theirs exclusively. Other than that, I thought the product to be a good representation for its said purposes.
