Budget-Friendly Decorating Made Easy with Paintable Wallpaper

Looking for budget-friendly ways to decorate your ceiling or walls? Then it’s time to stretch your dollar with paintable wallpaper. You can get a high-end look for the fraction of the cost. And it’s great for covering unsightly problem walls. Here’s what you can do with paintable relief wallpaper.

• The Great Cover Up

Sooner or later we all run into that horror of a wall that has bumps and lumps that just won’t go away. Not a problem – just bring in some paintable wallpaper. These textured, relief wallpapers come in a bunch of patterns, shapes and sizes. From curvy modern designs to traditional damask or leaf patterns, paintable wallpaper can cover a multitude of sins and you can paint it any color to match any room.

• Faux Tin Ceiling Tile

Have you ever priced installing a real tin tile ceiling? Even the simplest of patterns will run you a small fortune. While strolling through my local home improvement store, I spotted faux tin ceiling tile panels and thought they would be in my price range – but, even they ran $2 per square foot.

That’s why my heart fluttered when I found paintable faux tin tile wallpaper. For under 50 cents a square foot, you can buy relief wallpaper that can be applied to walls or ceilings and painted in any color. I’m planning to use this on the ceiling in my bedroom painted in a shabby chic style. I’ll be painting a white satin base and then rubbing on a bit of copper paint to hit the highlights in the relief pattern. It should be absolutely stunning at a fraction of the price for the real thing.

• Budget-Friendly Beadboard Substitute

I’m also thinking about using paintable beadboard wallpaper as a substitute for a wood treatment in a rustic cabin. Applying it on half of the wall with cheap one-by-three inch wood as a make-shift chair rail will save the owners a ton of money. I’ll paint the beadboard in a cream color and then wipe it lightly with a bit of stain from the chair rail to settle into the vertical seams. The combination will be so warming and inviting.

• Embellish Your Crown Molding

You can make simple crown molding look spectacular by mounting a section of paintable scrollwork wallpaper border under it. Install a thin trim molding under the border for a perfect finish. Once they’re all painted the same color, no one would ever know you didn’t invest in expensive millwork. How gorgeous at only $7 a roll.
