Bubble Birthday Party

It doesn’t matter what’s happening with the economy you still have to give your child a birthday party, right? Even on a budget you can throw a really fun party that will have all the guests laughing and playing. If yours is a young child you can’t go wrong with a bubble party. When you create bubble-theme decorations, party favors and games you host a party that costs little but offers a lot of excitement.

It’s really easy to print out pictures of bubble bottles to make invitations for the party. Or, if you have a larger budget, empty bottles of bubbles into a pail and clean the bottles and wands. Later, at the party, you can use the liquid bubbles. Print out small invitations and wrap them around the wands. Tuck a wand invitation into each bottle and print mailing labels for the bottles. The bottles don’t need boxes; they cost about a buck a piece to mail.

If you’re going to be sitting the kids around a single table to eat you can make place markers and party favors all at the same time. Purchase sticky labels at an office supply store and print them on your computer. It’s not hard to create a bubble border around a child’s name and stick it to a bottle of bubbles. Set a bubble bottle at each plate and the child knows where to sit. He or she can take the bubbles home as a party favor. It can be a lot of fun for kids if you place a piece of bubble wrap on each chair.

If you have a child’s swimming pool use it as a giant bubble pool. Mix up a half-cup of dishwashing detergent, 5 cups of water and 2 tablespoons of glycerin. Increase the recipe as many times as needed to fill the pool – or another container. Pour the mix into the swimming pool out back and give kids wands. They can use regular bubble wands, butterfly nets without the nets, or even a hula hoop to make bubbles during the party.

Kids can have even more fun if you tape large pieces of bubble wrap to a sidewalk, deck or patio. Let kids jump up and down on the bubble wrap to pop the bubbles and laugh like crazy. Or, lay the bubble wrap out on a sidewalk and, as the kids arrive, they can pop the bubbles on the way to the front door.

Roll bubble wrap up to make small stools for the kids. Use small-bubble bubble wrap and cut a piece to be from the floor to the height of a child’s knees. Roll it tightly from one end to the other then tape all the way around it – once close to the top and once around the bottom – to make small stools. Kids can take these home as one of the party favors but can sit on them, outside or indoors, at the party.

If you bake cupcakes in small, glass or metal bowls you can make them look like bubble cakes. Just bake, turn them out, and frost them.

A bubble party is an inexpensive party but a lot of fun for the kids. Let the guests blow bubbles, jump up and down on them, or just sit on them while having cake. Your child will have a fabulous birthday party and will never suspect that you spent very little.
