Breadfruit Nutritional Benefits

Breadfruit is one of those melon types of fruits. I always thought it had an unusual look to it since it is lime green in color and has the feel of bread to before it ripens really well.

This particular fruit has about 227 calories in it, 2.35 of protein, and a big 10.8 grams of fiber. As a result of its high fiber counts, it serves as a good natural laxative, and fiber not only does that, but provides better intestinal health through helping prevent certain colon cancers.

Are you looking for a source of great potassium? Breadfruit would be it for sure, since it has 1,078 milligrams of this in a serving-Wow! When I studied this fruit to write this article, I couldn’t get over that. Potassium is needed to keep us alive since it regulates both the heart, blood pressure, balances body fluids, and helps our muscle energy too!

There is 66 milligrams of phosphorus, and 37 milligrams of calicum in breadfruit as well. Both of these play roles in bone health since it helps bone density also, therefore avoiding osteoporosis which is weakening of the bones as we age.

Some manganese is also in this special fruit since it totals 0.132 milligrams of this vital nutrient. Manganese is what helps to process two of our amino acids which is both biotin and thiamin needed to keep the body healthy.

Breadfruit has some iron in it, at 1.19 milligrams in a serving. Iron is needed for anyone who is lacking in iron and has iron-deficiency anemia as a result. Another blood building vitamin for anemia is copper, which is also contained within breadfruit at 0.185 milligrams a serving. Copper is not only blood building for hemoglobin, but it also plays roles in collagen production as well, and collagen is a bone builder that is needed to keep bones functioning properly.

Selenium is in breadfruit, 1.3 milligrams a serving size. Selenium is needed as a micronutrient in the body. It serves its purposes in helping disease-fighting antioxidants in the body to work for us, and up to a certain degree, helps prevent bone inflammation in arthritis.

There is 0.26 milligrams of zinc found in breadfruit. Zinc is a type of mineral that is vital to our body functions since it activates many of our enzymes and also helps in the process of wound healing too. Zinc is also supportive for stress, helps hair, skin, and possibly blood sugar levels too.

There is some vitamin C in breadfruit which amounts to 63.8 milligrams. Vitamin C is essential to building up the immune system, and this is another vitamin that has been known to build collagen in the bones so that the bones stay healthy.

Folate, which is needed by the body, and is a water-soluble vitamin, is provided by eating breadfruit. Folate is central to the processing of homocystine, an amino acid in our body, along with providing a healthier cell production too. In breadfruit, you’ll get 31 micrograms of this vitamin.

These are the highlights of what breadfruit can provide. Other nutrients found are also traces of vitamin B1, B2, and B6. There is also some others in traces which is A E, and vitamin K.

If you can find it, breadfruit is an excellent supplement to the diet for sure. One idea to locate it, is to google it and see areas where it is located in the states.
