Body Lotion Review – Lubriderm and Eucerin

One of my pet peeves is dry skin. As such, I’ve tried almost every body lotion on the market searching for that perfect and soothing salve that works best on my skin. However I’ve noticed in the past ten years or so that even when the lure of an expensive brand hits the shelf or someone recommends another product, there are still two body lotions that I gravitate toward and return to: Lubriderm and Eucerin. Both manufacturers of each body lotion make a whole line of products, but the two I’m referring to are Lubriderm Advanced Therapy (for extra-dry skin) and Eucerin Plus Intensive Repair Lotion. In the following review, I’ll share what I’ve learned about both body lotions through research and being a long-time and dedicated user of each.

Lubriderm Advanced Therapy Moisturizing Lotion

Lubriderm has been around for many years and its products are available in drug stores, groceries, general merchandise stores and online. Their products are non-comedogenic (except for Lubriderm Daily Moisture with SPF 15 Lotion).

When first starting with Lubriderm Advanced Therapy Moisturizing Lotion, results are visible within a week’s time. The manufacturer touts the product as having Vitamins B5 & E, and lipids which are organic compounds that contain fats (one of many structures that comprise living cells). Lipids are insoluble and are important to your skin’s overall health.

Over the years, I’ve tried brands that cost less than Lubriderm (a 16 oz. bottle costs around $8-9 depending on where I purchase it). In trying to save money, however, I noticed that I was applying those other lotions more often to try and maintain the results I get through Lubriderm. Of course, none of the products would last as long or provide the relief from dry skin that I needed.

In short, Lubriderm is my choice for daily application to my dry skin and has proven to be worth its cost.

Eucerin Plus Intensive Repair Lotion

Eucerin Plus Intensive Repair Lotion is another great product like Lubriderm. It is also available in drug stores, groceries and online. It contains alpha hydroxy which is gentle to the skin. Additionally Eucerin Plus contains urea, which naturally occurs in our skin. On their website, Eucerin claims that urea is a “skin conditioner and humectant” and that the urea found in their products is synthetically produced and does not come from humans or animals.

Eucerin claims to use the highest quality ingredients and “clinically-proven” formulas.

The product itself is very thick and works wonders on severely dry and cracked skin. I prefer to use it at night because it is a little greasy and leaves a shine to the skin.

When comparing Lubriderm to Eucerin I find them at par with one another, yet I find Eucerin to be more intense and perhaps “stronger”. In other words, I like using Eucerin during the harsh winter months when my dry skin is at its worst. I prefer Lubriderm for daily use when my skin is at the “normal” dry level I’m used to.
