Quick Ways to Get Rid of a Hickey

A hickey is also called a love bite, but it is not caused by a bite, and it does not necessarily have anything to do with love. Suctioned lips on the neck, shoulder, breast, or any other area of the body can cause a dark ugly bruise more commonly known as a hickey. A hickey is used as a quick way to put a brand on a boyfriend or girlfriend, but it can cause a lot of trouble with teachers, parents, and other family members. Unfortunately it is not possible to instantly get rid of a hickey, but it can be significantly lightened and hidden until the injured area heals. Forget about quick topical remedies, lotions, potions, witch hazel, vanilla extract, and other nonsense that will not work. Try these quick and easy ways to get rid of a hickey, and hide the area until it heals and the ugly mark disappears for good.

Apply Pressure and Ice as Soon as Possible

As soon as a hickey is discovered, apply pressure along with ice to help contract the broken blood vessels and stop further bleeding beneath the skin. This will not get rid of the hickey, but it will help keep it from spreading and darkening. Do not apply the ice directly to the skin in an attempt to get rid of it. This will only cause more redness and irritation. Instead, place an ice cube in a plastic zipper bag or wrap it in a paper towel, and massage the mark for about ten minutes. Alternate this step with one or more of the following steps to get rid of or at least lighten the hickey quick and almost painlessly.

Use this Quick Method to Erase it Away

Many people swear by this simple eraser trick to get rid of or lighten a hickey quick and painlessly. Apply a little petroleum jelly or another lubricant to prevent chaffing the skin, and massage the hickey with a soft pencil eraser using a turning motion. Begin at the center of the mark. Do this for at least several minutes. If this does not work to get rid of it, try the cold spoon or comb method. Eventually you will find a quick method that works to get rid of or at least lighten the hickey so it can be covered with makeup until it goes away by itself.

Apply a Heated Wet Washcloth to Help Get Rid of a Hickey

This quick method to get rid of a hickey works very well for some, and it is worth a try. Place a washcloth in a bowl of water, and heat the water in the microwave until it is very hot but not too hot to safely handle. Ring out the hot washcloth, and press it over the hickey until the cloth begins to cool. If this does not get rid of the hickey or make it much lighter, try using the quick and easy cold spoon method.

Try this Quick and Easy Cold Spoon Method

Use a cold metal teaspoon or tablespoon to smooth the mark away quick and painlessly. Begin by placing two or three spoons in the freezer for several minutes. After they are very cold, use the back of one of the spoons to massage the broken blood vessels and get rid of the mark. After the first spoon begins to get warm, use another. Repeat this quick and easy process until you get rid of the hickey, or try the comb method that is listed below.

Try the Comb or Brush Method for a Quick Fix

A fine-tooth comb or bristle brush works well for some when looking for quick ways to get rid of a hickey. It is said to break up the clotted blood and greatly lighten or get rid of the mark. Simply brush or comb over it for several minutes in all directions. A battery-operated toothbrush lubricated with a dab of toothpaste might also do the trick quick and painlessly.

Quick Cover Up Stick to Completely Hide the Lightened Mark

A very dark hickey is nearly impossible to cover with any type of makeup, especially when the skin is light. After using the aforementioned quick ways to get rid of or lighten a hickey, cover the mark with concealer. A cover up stick is normally used to hide dark circles under the eyes, but it will also hide a hickey in a very quick and painless way. Top the cover up stick with a layer of translucent face powder to get rid of the shine and help it blend in with the skin.

If You Cannot Get Rid of it, Hide it

If all else fails, use a choker, scarf, bandana, or a shirt with a high collar to hide the ugly hickey. This is a quick and very easy solution, but it is not a foolproof way to hide a hickey from parents or anyone else that will have a problem with it.

Do you know of any other quick and easy ways to get rid of or hide a hickey? If you have used other quick methods that actually work, leave a note in the comment section. What works for some does not work for others, and it might be necessary to try a few quick methods or a combination of quick methods to get rid of or lessen the appearance of a ugly dark hickey.
