Best 5 Zebra Themed Snacks for Kids

Looking to surprise your children with a zebra themed snack? Want to give them something other than Little Debbie Zebra Cakes? If so, you may want to try one of my themed treat ideas. Here they are:

White Bean Dip and Black Chips

White bean dip and black tortilla chips are one of the first snacks that you may want to consider serving the kids. The dip is traditionally made with white kidney beans and assorted seasonings. You can find a recipe for it posted on the Recipe4Living website. The tortilla chips are made with black beans and rice. You can typically purchase them at major grocery stores and through specialty retailers. One retailer that sells the chips is Food Service Direct. The brand of chips to look for is Plocky’s.

White Corn and Black Bean Salsa

While you have the Plocky’s chips on hand, you may want to whip up a batch of white corn and black bean salsa too. It tastes great when paired with the chips as well. In most instances, you can buy fresh or canned white corn and black beans at major super markets. If you have never made a corn and black bean salsa before, there is a basic recipe available on the Food Network website.

Olive Tapenade and Cream Cheese Crostinis

Small pieces of toast topped with stripes of olive tapenade and cream cheese would also make great zebra themed snacks. To form the stripes, simply grab two pastry bags. Fill one bag with the olive tapenade and the other with cream cheese. Then use the pastry bag tips to pipe your zebra stripes onto each piece of toast. That’s all that there is to making the treats. When you’re done, place the zebra striped crostinis onto a platter and serve them to your children.

Stacked Sandwich

Afraid your kiddos won’t like olive tapenade? Well then, you may want to create a zebra sandwich instead. It is made with alternating layers of pumpernickel bread, meats, white cheeses and white bread. To assemble the snack, place one piece of pumpernickel bread onto your child’s plate. Then top it with a slice of white cheese and the meat of your choice. Personally, I’d recommend going with a brown or white colored meat. Examples include roast beef, pastrami, turkey and chicken breast. Once that’s done, add any additional sandwich fixings of your choosing and a slice of white bread. Repeat the same procedure until you have a sandwich that is several layers high. Afterward, slice the sandwich into fours and serve it to your kids.

Parfaits

Finally, parfaits would make great snacks as well. You could opt to make them with layers of chocolate pudding and whipped cream or black raspberry puree and whipped cream. The choice is yours. Either way, the snacks will need to be assembled in the same way. Just place a layer of cream at the bottom of a clear plastic cup. Then top it with the filling of your choice and another layer of cream. Keep repeating the process until the cup is full. Once the cup is full, present it to your kids along with a few spoons.
