Babysitting Advice: How to Make Babysitting Flyers and Ads

Are you a teen wanting to find babysitting jobs? Looking for sample babysitting flyers? Are you a college student wanting to babysit to earn some extra income? An effiective way to advertise your babysitting skills is to create flyers. You can post these flyers up at grocery stores, churches, work break rooms, coffee shops, Christian bookstores and anywhere that has a bulletin board. Here are some tips on how to create an effective babysitting flyer.

For starters, you definitely want to create the babysitting flyer on the computer. You want it to be eye-catching, so be sure to use larger fonts. Use Microsoft Word, Microsoft Publisher, Print Shop, or other software to help you create the sign.

At the top of the flyer, type “Needing a reliable, caring and fun babysitter?” Some alternative headings are “Searching for a dependable and experienced babysitter?” and “Needing a nurturing and fun babysitter for your little ones?” You might use a creative font for this heading, but be sure it is something that is easily readable. Avoid using a cursive font. If you want, you might add a smiley face at the end of the question.

Below the heading, write a phrase such as, “Dependable 16 year old girl willing to care for your children.” If you are a college student, type something such as “20 year old Texas Tech junior available to babysit your little ones.” Make this phrase in a smaller font, but still bigger than the rest of the font on the babysitting ad.

Below the second heading, should create bullets of information that tell more about you. Keep it brief, but helpful. Some things to type are “Have references available”, “CPR/First Aid Certified”, “3 years experience”, “Lots of TLC”, “Patient, Caring, and Flexible”, “Available Weekends Only”, “Reasonable Rates”, etc.

After you’ve provided that information, be sure to include your name and phone number. It’s a great idea to either have your business cards available in an attached envelope, or print your name and phone number at the bottom where they can reach you.

To make your babysitting flyer stand out, its a great idea to be creative. Try printing the flyer on colored paper, such as bright yellow or green. For an added creative touch, add stickers. You can find these at a scrapbooking store such as Hobby Lobby or Michael’s. (You could add stickers of cute baby animals, flowers, abc blocks, etc.) It will definitely provide a unique touch.

Be sure to have someone else proofread the flyer for you. Double check to make sure there are no mistakes on it. A babysitting flyer with misspelled words or grammatical errors can definitely make parents disinterested in contacting you.

Hang the flyers up in locations where parents might visit. There is nothing wrong with mailing a flyer to parents you know who might be prospective clients. (However, be sure to not nag them, and do not ask them about it or if you could babysit for them.)

For activity ideas with the kids you babysit, read “Creative Ways to Amuse and Entertain Your Toddler. (Of course, be sure to check with the parents before doing anything messy.)

Good Luck with your babysitting career!
