Amy Butler Ideas: How to Make a Fabric Headboard Slip Cover

If you love the shabby chic look, but own a plain and boring wood headboard, then try sewing a slipcover for it out of Amy Butler Fabric. This is a shabby chic Amy Butler Fabric craft project you can make in out of an old wood Headboard, some Amy Butler Fabric paper, and a sewing machine. It will give a rich look to any outdated wood Headboard.

Amy Butler Fabric makes a great shabby chic slipcover on almost any Headboard! If you have a rectangular headboard with lots of straight lines, then you will have an easy time making this headboard slipcover!

Amy Butler Fabric
Wooden Headboard
Scissors
Sewing Machine or Now Sew
Pencil

The first step is to take your headboard off the bed frame.

Lay your old flat sheet out on the ground. Now, lay the headboard out on top.

Use a marker to trace the headboard shape. I like to add about 4 inches to all sides. This will allow for room for sewing and still keep the headboard slipcover nice and loose! Loose fits work well for beginners and look perfect in a shabby chic setting.

Use one wood Headboard for the base of this shabby chic Amy Butler Fabric project. You could use a pre-upholstered headboard or even a wicker headboard if that is what you have.

Now, pick up the headboard and cut out the pattern you just traced.

You will need two-piece of Amy Butler fabric cut to this size.

Start by laying a piece of Amy Butler Fabric paper on a flat surface. Pin your pattern made out of a sheet on to the fabric.

Cut the fabric out. Continue this process until you have two identical pieces.

Tip: to save money if you will not see the back of the headboard tries using a less expensive fabric, on use the Amy Butler fabric on the front.

Now, lay your two pieces of fabric on a flat surface. You want to have the pattern on the front facing the inside. Pin the two pieces together.

Now, use your sewing machine to sew the three sides together. Do not sew the bottom or you will not be able to slip it onto your headboard.

If you want you can use No Sew, but do not expect great results when you wash the slipcover. Sewing with a machine is best. These are easy straight lines, so borrow one or rent one if you don’t have a sewing machine.

Tip: Try sewing this lien twice to reinforce the headboard slipcover!

Once you have finished flip it inside out. Iron the headboard slipcover flat and then slide it on to your headboard!!

This is the easiest shabby chic headboard I know! Even a teenager or child could make this shabby chic headboard slipcover. So, let the kids help!
