“The Wanderer”

This golden oldie was written by Ernie Maresca and originally recorded by Dion in November of 1961. The song tells the story of a travelling man and his many ladies. As soon as they hear, “Oh well I’m the type of guy who will never settle down,” the available and sometimes not so available men can’t resist singing along. This song is ranked #239 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

“Sweet Caroline”

Sweet Caroline was written and performed by Neil Diamond. It was officially released in 1969. It has been said that Diamond sang this song to Caroline Kennedy during her 50th birthday celebration in 2007. This one is just plain fun for all.

“Piece of My Heart”

This influential song was written by Jerry Ragovoy and Bert Berns. It was originally recorded by Erma Franklin in 1967. In 1968, Big Brother and the Holding Company featuring Janis Joplin on vocals released their own version of this song. This version is considered by many to be one of the songs that shaped rock and roll. This song is great if you are feeling a little frustrated with your current or previous relationship. “Respect”

Respect is a song written and released by Otis Redding in 1965. This song became a hit and a signature song in 1967 for R&B; singer Aretha Franklin. Redding wrote the song as a man’s plea for respect and recognition from a woman, but Aretha reversed those roles and created a landmark for the feminist movement. She did such a good job that it’s almost always women who choose this song for karaoke. She earned two Grammy Awards in 1968 for “Best Rhythm & Blues Recording” and “Best Rhythm & Blues Solo Vocal Performance, Female.”

“Born to Be Wild”

Mars Bonfire wrote this rock anthem. It was made famous by Steppenwolf in 1968 going all the way to number two on the Billboard charts. Born to Be Wild is the quintessential motorcycle anthem and ranked #129 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. This one is great for a rowdy bunch.

Hey Jude”

This beautiful ballad was written by Paul McCartney to help ease John Lennon’s son, Julian, through the pain of his parent’s divorce. It was released in August 1968. This song is best saved for later in the evening as it can mellow out a crowd.

“Ooo Baby Baby”

This remorseful song was written by Smokey Robinson and fellow Miracle Pete Moore, sometimes referred to as Warren Moore. This is the band’s signature song and it was released in 1965. It is a fun song to sing if done right, but it can also cause the party to take a mellow turn.

“Oh, Pretty Women”

This classic was written by Roy Orbison and Bill Dees. It was released in 1964, when it became a worldwide hit for Roy Orbison. Every guy who’s taken a girl on a date to a karaoke bar has at least considered singing this one. This song is ranked #222 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

“These Boots are Made for Walkin'”

This unforgettable pop classic was composed by Lee Hazlewood. Nancy Sinatra recorded this song in 1966. This song is so much fun to sing that even superstars like Jessica Simpson can’t resist.
