A Review of the Quizno’s Franchise

As an aspiring business owner and entrepreneur I am always on the look out for strong business markets. The next opportunity I came to look into was Quizno’s; I composed this article today on bay area owners and franchisees. It seems as if when it is “with Quizno’s, no matter how much money you make, you barely skim by and break even,” says Willie Zinnerman (a local Quizno’s owner). Several factors go into Quizno’s down spiraling market.

Many people have seen the commercial with the attractive spokesperson who rattles on about the rewards of owning a Quizno’s sub franchise. Being your own boss is majority of hard working peoples dreams. According to a Tampa Tribune survey, about 80 percent of Quizno’s restaurants in Hillsborough and Pinellas counties that were open as of January 2003 have changed hands or closed. On top of that, Quizno’s has been sued by many franchisees that paid the franchise fee of 25,000 dollars and were unable to find a location to place a store.

Unfortunately, Quizno’s maintains its reputation as a high growth rate competitor in today’s market. In 2003, there were only 15 Quizno’s franchises in the Pasco, Hillsborough, and Pinellas County. As of today, there are 35 Quizno’s. The ranking is No.2 on its Top 10 franchises for 2006, so what’s their problem? The Ranking takes into account growth rate and financial strength but does not factor in franchisee satisfaction.

There are also a dozen of unsatisfied franchisees. Franklin Green of Tampa Bay was forced to close his downtown location due to poor franchising. Company officials are slow to return phone calls from franchisees, that are rookies at running restaurants and need help, he said about the situation. Another possible problem with franchising with Quiznos is finding location. Many franchisees are high disappointed with wait times of several years just to find a suitable location, and in the mean time they must cover the 25,000 dollar franchising fee.

One can conclude that from this article, we must be very knowledgeable when it comes to opening a business franchise. It takes time, however time well spent. High costs of food and poor ethical standards for franchisees, is something one would might want to investigate before taking that venture. We must take the time to find a good location before opening for franchise, or risk losing a lot of money and having to wait for a location for beginning. Stats of profit gain from the franchiser should be verified with stores in the area you plan to build in. Quizno’s is a good job for employees; however, employers could come close to disagree.
