A Review of Camel Signature Blends

I am a dedicated Camel smoker (even though I know it is hazardous to my health), most fond of their Turkish line, as I’ve mentioned elsewhere. So when I ran into their new Signature Blends line (contained in beautifully decorated packs), I decided I would give them all a try. Unfortunately I found every last variety in Signature Blends line to be a dud, a real disappointment considering Camel makes the best cigarettes around.

I’ll start my review with the Frost. The Frost is a mentholated cigarette, or at least it tastes like one, it doesn’t say anywhere on the package that it is a menthol. I am no fan of menthols, so of course I didn’t like the Frost one bit. I will say, though, that it is the best tasting menthol cigarette I’ve ever had, but that’s not saying much.

The Infused was probably my favorite of the line, although it wasn’t much to write home about either. The Infused is, well, infused with a sort of fruity taste, sort of like those fruit-flavored cigars you’ll find. I’m not a big fan of the idea of tasting fruit while I’m smoking a cigarette, so the Infused didn’t do much to tickle my taste buds whatsoever. This was my own first encounter with the Camel Signature Blends, so I’ll admit that it didn’t do well to start me off on the rest of them.

As for Camel Signature Blends Robust, it promised to be a richer tasting cigarette than the Infused. It was a richer cigarette, I’ll admit, with a much thicker flavor, but nothing that got me interested in the thing. I can’t really describe the flavor, but it wasn’t a good one. It tasted like a really heavy, bad tasting cigarette.

The last on the list of the Camel Signature Blends is the Mellow. I was expecting this one to be at least decent, I myself enjoy a nice, mellow cigarette. (The Camel Turkish Royal, my favorite of the Camel line, advertises itself as “Rich and Mellow.”) But I think the minds over there at RJ Reynolds went just a little too far when they were manufacturing the Mellow. They went and mellowed it so much that they mellowed out any sort of flavor or taste. Take a puff on the Mellow and it’s like you’re puffing nothing at all. This is very unusual for any cigarette, which generally has some sort of taste, and especially a Camel which prides itself on its flavor.

All in all, then, the Camel Signature Blends series came up, at least for me, as a bunch of duds. Maybe I’m not the guy they’re targeting with these things, but I found nothing of value in any of these four new flavors. Sure they come in pretty packaging but it’s what’s on the inside that counts.

I’m not going to recommend smoking to anyone: it’s a stupid, dirty, filthy, disgusting habit that has a good chance of killing you at one point or another in your life. But if you’re going to smoke something, I recommend you at least smoke something that tastes good, and you aren’t going to find any of that with the new Camel Signature Blends cigarettes.
