5 Homemade Angry Birds Party Games

When my four-year-old proclaimed he wanted an Angry Birds birthday party, the ideas for party games immediately started flowing. Since I don’t like to purchase items retail, every party I host has a homemade touch. For this birthday party, we wanted a variety of Angry Birds party games that would be fun and simple for young children. With just a few purchased materials, a little effort, and a few recycled items around the house, we created an array of homemade party games fit for a fantastic Angry Birds party. Here’s what we did:

1. Angry Birds ball toss – Clean three empty tin cans, and make sure the edges are smooth. Mix a lime green acrylic paint color, and paint the sides and bottoms of each can (two coats are needed). When dry, draw a pig face on each can with black marker or paint. Next, brush on a layer of gloss to keep the paint from scratching. For the balls, I drew Angry Birds faces on blue, red and yellow plastic balls with a permanent marker. If you’d rather, use colored beanbags, or actual Angry Birds toys. Set up your finished game by stacking the three cans, and taking turns trying to knock the pigs over.

2. Green pig dart game – Paint a piece of plywood with light blue paint, then a strip of green at the bottom for grass. If desired, paint logs, stones or glass walls to resemble the structures in the Angry Birds game. Next, blow up plenty of light green balloons and draw pig faces on them with black marker. Staple balloons to the dart board, then have party guests throw darts and try to pop the balloons.

3. Bowling for green pigs – Since my son had a small plastic bowling set he barely used, we spray painted the pins light green, and the bowling ball red. We drew pig faces on the pins and a bird face on the ball. For this party game, basic bowling rules applied, and guests took turns trying to knock out all the green pig pins.

4. Angry Birds volleyball – For this simple, homemade party game, we purchased a pack of large, colored punch balloons and removed the rubber bands. We drew Angry Birds faces on the colored balloons, then stood our party guests on opposite sides in two teams, and had them hit the balloons like volleyballs. This was a tremendously energetic, fun activity for young children.

5. Homemade Angry Birds pinata – Although my local stores carried Angry Birds piñatas retail, I didn’t want to spend $20 for something kids would be breaking apart. So I blew up a few large balloons and covered them with many layers of newspaper and diluted white glue. I left an opening at the top of each balloon, through which I popped the balloon, then pulled it out when the glue dried. The candy went in next, then I added more paper-mache over the hole and let it dry. Next, the piñatas were painted with acrylic paints to resemble various green pigs and Angry birds. As predicted, the party guests had a blast with our homemade piñatas!

We ended up having a fabulous Angry Birds-themed party; but my favorite part was how happy the kids were, playing fun homemade games that barely cost anything. Know of any other ideas for homemade Angry Birds party games? Let us know in the comments below!
