10 Reasons Babies Cry

If you’re a new parent, you may not know why your baby is crying and won’t stop. Babies cry for several reasons, some reasons you may not have even thought of. As a parent, it is your job to determine why your baby is crying and to solve the problem. This article will go over 10 reasons an infant may cry.

10 Reasons Babies Cry #1: Hunger

Hunger is one of the top reasons your infant may be crying. When determining if they’re hungry, you need to ask yourself a few questions such as How long as it been since their last feeding? How much did they eat at their last feeding? If your infant is being breast fed, they need to eat more often then a formula fed baby because breast milk digests quicker.

10 Reasons Babies Cry #2: Diaper Change

Imagine wearing a diaper and having to wait until someone changed you to be clean. Your baby can feel icky in their diaper after they’ve soiled it. Urine that is not changed right away can grow cold and make them uncomfortable. Check your baby’s diaper to see if they need a diaper change if they’re crying.

10 Reasons Babies Cry #3: Gas

Gas bubbles are very uncomfortable, especially when you’re a little baby. Your baby does not understand why they are in such terrible pain. Gently touch your infants’ stomach and if it feels a little harder then normal, your infant may have gas. You can buy over the counter medication like Mylicon to help ease their pain.

10 Reasons Babies Cry #4: Constipation

Constipation is another ailment that will cause your infant pain. Constipation means that your child can’t excrement. Some reasons for constipation could be as simple as their formula doesn’t agree with them. With my children, I had to switch formula because it was hurting them, instead of helping them. If you have an older infant, you can try a little prune juice to help them with their constipation. If you still can’t figure out what to do, consult your doctor.

10 Reasons Babies Cry #5: Colic

Your infant may have colic if they cry uncontrollably for hours at a time. Web MD says that your baby may have colic if “they may clench their fists and stiffen their stomach and legs. Some babies arch their back, while others pull up their legs to their stomach.” Web MD suggests that you keep track of when your baby cries the most and limit light and visitors to your home. You can also try holding your infant more to sooth them. If your child does have colic or you suspect they do, make an appointment with your doctor, who may be able to help you and your infant.

10 Reasons Babies Cry #6: Hurt

If you’re infant has gotten hurt, that may be why they are crying. Did you hook the diaper too tight? Did they get a scratch? Did their sibling hug them a little too hard? Check your baby over to see if they have any hurts or ask their other relatives if they know what happened.

10 Reasons Babies Cry #7: Too Warm

When my first son was less then a week old, he cried in the middle of the night and I could not figure out what was wrong with him. Being a new and young parent, I was concerned and called my Mom, who then called her Mom. Both of them showed up on my doorstep in the middle of the night and they quickly solved the problem. My son was too hot. I had bundled him up to warmly. In my tired state, I didn’t even realize that he was bundled up too much and my poor little guy couldn’t handle the heat and let me know what was wrong, the only way he could, by crying. If you have your baby bundled up a lot, tight as a bug in a rug, then you might want to check their body heat.

10 Reasons Babies Cry #8: Too Cold

Your baby may be catching a chill if they’re not covered up properly, especially if it’s chilly where you live. Feel your baby’s toes and body to see if they need to get warmed up.

10 Reasons Babies Cry #9: Attention

Your infant may be crying just because they need some tender loving care from their main caregiver. Rock your baby in a rocking chair, give them tender kisses and sing them a song. Just love them. That may be all they need.

10 Reasons Babies Cry #10: Loud Noise

Loud noises generally scare and startle infants. When my kids were children they easily got scared by loud noises such as a dish falling on the floor, children running around and screaming, etc. If you think that your baby has gotten scared by a loud noise, remove them from the area the noise is at and soothe and comfort them.
