Ziggy the Cat’s 2300 Mile Journey

When container full of plastic goods was opened at a warehouse in Lancashire, northern England, a fluffy white cat shot out. The cat and the container were shipped all the way from Israel. The cat survived 17 days without food on a 2,300 mile voyage from Israel to England.

The cat not only survived his journey but also was strong enough to resist capture for five hours. He was scared to death,” said James Ratcliff, of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA). “He’d traveled all that way and got to a strange country and ran for his life.”

The skinny white cat was named after Ziggy Stardust – the character created by David Bowie in the 1970s, because like the British rock star he has one green eye and one blue.

Ziggy’s background is a mystery because he didn’t have a collar or microchip. The RSCPA believe that he is someone’s pet because he is so friendly to humans. Ziggy will stay in quarantine in Britain for six months as a precaution against rabies.
