Yummy Earth Organic Gummy Worms Review

I don’t know who likes them more, my toddler daughter or me. Actually, I do know…me! For a couple of weeks now, I can’t get enough of Yummy Earth Organic Gummy Worms.

I’m so glad I stumbled upon them while at the cashier’s counter at a local Home Goods store. Which was a really odd place for me to find them, since Home Goods stores are anything but stores that sell foodstuff. But I’m always on the lookout for new organic items, and what a great point of sale item for them to stock, these Yummy Earth Organic Gummy Worms.

Yummy Earth Organic Gummy Worms ( Taste & History )

I don’t know if you can make a gummy worm that tastes bad; maybe so, but ever since the first time I had one as a kid at the Germany Pavilion within Epcot theme park at Walt Disney World, I’ve enjoyed any gummy bear or worm that’s wriggled across my path.

From that early age, I’ve always had a strong inkling Gummy Bears originated in Germany. Later, living in Germany and picking up some of the language-including how to fix the gummi ( tire ) on my car-that strong inkling about those rubbery gummy bears got even stronger.

Although I didn’t take advantage, in retrospect, of finding out while there if gummy bears really originated in Germany, it’s with great pleasure that at this time, while eating from a bag of Yummy Earth Organic Gummy Worms, I dug up the history of Gummy Bears and Gummy Worms. Yes! Now I know Gummys actually did originate in Germany.

The once forgotten yet familiar Haribo is the candy making company that started, back in 1922, making the original gummy bear candy. The “HA” in Haribo stands for Hans, the “RI” stands for Riegel, and “BO” stands for Bonn ( Germany ). Hans Riegel, from Bonn, Germany, and one year later his wife, Gertrud, were Haribo. See The History, Making and Influences of Gummi Bears, by Kerschie Byerly, for a well-done article about Gummy Bears.

Yummy Earth Organic Gummy Worms ( Size, Price, Ingredients, Nutrition & Company Information)

Interestingly, even though Yummy Earth is a company based in Ridgewood, NJ, on the delectably brilliant and brainy packaging says, “Product of Germany.”

Ingredients: Organic rice syrup, organic cane sugar, gelatin, organic aronia juice, organic black currant juice, natural flavor, citric acid, ascorbic acid, canauba wax, organic sunflower oil.

Notice how Yummy Earth Organic Gummy Worms don’t have in them artificial dyes, and are made with real fruit extracts. A real plus in today’s world, now knowing what we know about artificial dyes or artificial colors, and artificial flavors. Of course, “natural flavor” in products is suspect in its own rite.

Seven Gummy Worms equal one serving of Yummy Earth Organic Worms. Ninety-six calories, almost completely gotten from sugar carbohydrates, is how much energy you get with each serving. Twelve grams of sugar is had with each serving, as well as 21 grams of carbohydrates. Each serving provides 100% of the Daily Value for Vitamin C.

Surprisingly, nowhere on the package did I find how much it weighs. Adding up the weight of each serving, 28 grams, by how many servings is said to be in each bag of Yummy Earth Organic Gummy Worms, seven servings, equals 196 grams or just about 7 ounces are in each package of Yummy Earth Gummy Organic Worms. Home Goods sells them for $1.99.
