You Can Lower Your Cholesterol Without Drugs

In this article I will describe exactly how my cholesterol was determined to be under control and acceptable after only three months. The story starts with my doctor’s notification that my LDL cholesterol was well above 160 while my HDL (good) cholesterol was in the 40s. While it is possible to balance these numbers and end up with an acceptable average; that was not my case in the beginning.

Exercise

My doctor recommended regular exercise, weight loss, and diet change to counteract my cholesterol readings. Since I was already walking during lunchtime I increased my walking speed to add to the efficiency of regular exercise. This resulted in losing a few more pounds. The exercise and associated weight loss were beneficial in the attempt to avoid taking drugs for my cholesterol problem.

Breakfast

An even more beneficial change involved my diet. I am sure that you have seen the commercials claiming that oatmeal helps to reduce cholesterol. That worked for me. For the entire three month period I had oatmeal for breakfast. I overcame the dullness of eating the same thing for breakfast during this period by purchasing variety packs and adding different fruits. This way the flavor changed quite a bit from one morning to the next.

Other Meals And Modifications

Breakfast was not the only consideration in changing my diet. I also changed the other two meals along with the elimination of snacks and soft drinks. By reducing the amount of food and sugar that was taken in, this helped in the weight loss area along with the potential diabetic issues that were concerning my doctor. In an additional effort, I changed the types of food consumed. Instead of processed and packaged foods, my meals consisted of more fresh vegetables with fish or chicken (leaner meats).

By changing my diet, losing weight, and increasing the amount of regular exercise, I was able to return to the doctor for a three month cholesterol checkup and receive a clean bill of health. Although my LDL still floated around 130 (considered borderline) my HDL reading was over 50. The doctor’s statement was that these numbers will work together to create a healthy cholesterol level.

Your Natural Body

Your body is meant to maintain a certain healthy aura. If you will treat it properly it will last a lifetime. If the doctor notices an unhealthy imbalance in test results your first thought should be centered around correcting that imbalance without introducing a synthetic drug as a possible solution. This approach worked well for me.

As a closing statement, I will recount a true story that most of you have probably experienced. I was helping with a pancake supper one evening and sausage was being served. I mentioned to another of the helpers, also with high cholesterol readings, that he should not be eating the sausage. His response was something like “I take a pill every morning to take care of that.” You can choose a pill every morning or proper exercise and diet which will help with cholesterol, heart, and many other health issues that are prevalent in today’s society.
