Where to Take Pottery Lessons in Chicago

Pick any civilization anywhere in the world and search their ancient history. There will be pottery from hundreds and in some cases thousands of years ago, beautifully decorated and telling there history in pictures. Pottery is many pretty much the same way as they did then, and it is one of the most popular of all craft activities. There are pottery and art studios in Chicago that have pottery lessons for students as young as two and as old as anyone. Each one of them has different schedules, the lessons can last for as little as a day or as long as ten weeks or anything in between. Come and take a one day class and see if this is the way you want to spend a little bit of your spare time.

Lincoln Square Pottery has just become an non profit organization. They have the following pottery lessons available Beginning Wheelthrowing, Intermediate and Advanced Wheelthrowing, Handbuilding and Handbuilding: Figure Sculpture with Gina Hutchings, Children’s Classes are for 6-13 year olds. Independent Study is for experienced potters who want open studio time. The classes are held once a week for eight weeks. They also have different workshops that can last for one day or a week. Lillstreet Art Center has five week sessions of pottery lessons. They have Beginner / Advanced Beginner, Multilevel and Intermediate/Advanced. After taking the usual beginner wheelthrowing lessons, you can sign up for the advanced special pottery lessons like Home and Garden Pottery, Color and Glaze Development, Soda Firing Fundamentals and many, many more. They take students younger than any of the other studios. The children’s lessons are broken down into age groups. Ages 2-4, Ages 3 ½-5, Ages 4-6, Ages 5-8, Ages 8-12 and Ages 10-14. It is a very comprehensive course of lessons and the younger they start, the more they will learn. They are located at 4401 North Ravenswood Chicago, Illinois 60640

Park West Ceramics has pottery classes for both adults and children. The adult classes are Beginner Handbuilding &
Wheelthrowing 8 Week Session One night a week Intermediate/Advanced Wheelthrowing 8 Week Session
Wed. Night 7:00-10:00pm Open Studio: Sat. 11am-6pm. For the kids, Junior Wheelthrowing, Painting & Drawing ages 10 & up Saturday 10am-12:30pm. They are located at 719 Wrightwood, Chicago.

The Pot Shop Studio & Gallery Adult Pottery classes run for eight week sessions, divided up like this Jan 22 – Mar 17, 2007, Apr 9 – Jun 2, 2007, Jun 11 – Aug 4, 2007 and Sep 10 – Nov 3, 2007, Beginning Pottery – Wheel Throwing, Intermediate Pottery I – Wheel Throwing, Intermediate Pottery II – Wheel Throwing and Advanced Pottery – Wheel Throwing. For the Kids they have Age 6-8 Handbuilding, Age 9-12 Wheel Throwing. There are four, six and eight week sessions. They are located at 1224 Chicago Avenue, Chicago, Illinois.
