Chegg – My go-to for textbooks. You can rent textbooks for your classes, and it’s usually half-off the original price, if not more. I understand that when you sell books back at the end of the semester you get money, but let’s be realistic, the price you pay to rent them is usually cheaper than what the school will pay you back. You can also buy books on their site which are frequently cheaper than bookstore prices, and they will pay you for your textbooks. Any time I order a book and it turns out I don’t need it or I ordered the wrong one, it’s never a hassle to return and get my money back. On an average semester I spend about $150 for all of my books, which is the price of about one at my school bookstore. Amazon/Ebay – I really don’t need to go into detail on these, since most everyone knows what they are, but I figured I would list them because it is a good option for cheap books. Compare prices here: www.amazon.com and here: www.ebay.com
Thrift Stores – Thrift stores are a great stop for books that you just want to read for fun. Not all thrift stores sell books that are 10 years old, with yellowing pages. I have been to many that sell books that are barely a year old and they are in between 50 cents and $3. You could honestly get over 6 books for the price of one at a bookstore.
