Franco Moschino :Famous Italian Fashion Designer

Franco Moschino is well-known for a clever sense of fashion that not only caught the attention of the fashion world, but also, held onto it long after his untimely death. Moschino had a sense of what it is that the public likes and he strove to provide it for them with his eclectic creations. Although his intention was not to garner notoriety, he certainly did accomplish that.

Out of the ordinary and totally unusual, his fashion pieces brought a fresh sense of the unique and truly clever to the world of fashion. Anything classic and contemporary had to undergo a vast transformation before it could ever receive the fashion label of Franco Moschino.

Time and time again, Moschino was able to take the norm and change it into something totally wonderful and out of the box. He gave fashionable dressing a new twist that showcased his uncanny sense of desirable fashion. He perfected his sense of proportion and cut. He marketed what the public wanted and was able to do it with a flair that drew the eye and acceptance of the fashion world as well as that of an adoring public.

Franco Moschino favored artwork that reflected his childhood favorites with a youthful flair. Additionally, he strove to achieve the unexpected with unusual attachments on his clothing creations. The Moschino lines include an exciting array of eveningwear, casual wear, jeans, lingerie, perfumes, shoes, ties, watches, and eyeglasses.

Franco Moschino was born in 1950 in Italy near Milan in a town called Abbiategrasso. At a very early age, Franco Moschino became interested in artistic creations, especially drawings. His love of art was encouraged and he began to spend hours drawing.

Unfortunately, Franco Moschino was born in 1950 in Italy near Milan in a town called Abbiategrasso. At a very early age, Franco lost the guidance of his father. Franco Moschino’s father died when Franco was a young boy of only four.
He continued to pursue his love of drawing, and at the age of 17, he entered the Accademia di Bella Arte in Milan. He chose to study art and painting. He had to pay his own expenses and in order to finance his education, he began to sketch illustrations and fashion designs, which he was able to sell to the fashion houses and magazines in Italy.

After some time, Gianni Versace noticed the clever designs of Moschino and became interested in his work. In 1971, Franco Moschino began to work as a sketcher for Versace. He was soon asked to draw some sketches for a publicity campaign for two collections of ready to wear clothing. Moschino continued to work for Versace and took on a position with Cadette, another famous Italian house of fashion.

His first individual showing, which was wildly successful, took place in 1983. This was the beginning of his own company and a separation from Versace. His second showing was also wildly applauded by the public as well as the press who adored his irreverent sense of what was fashionable and what wasn’t. Franco Moschino had finally come into his own.

The older, more established Italian fashion houses looked on in unabashed horror at Moschino’s quick grasp at a strong foothold in the world of fashion. His irreverent sense of style did not sit well with them, nor did they approve or try to copy his flamboyant styles. Each of Franco’s collections became more evocative and further from the normal sense of style foisted onto the fashionable world.

His masterpieces evoked a second glance and a pensive moment from his admiring fans. He displayed original messages on his designs including visual puns and text. In 1986, Franco Moschino launched a masculine collection that began with his introduction of a men’s line of underwear, Uomo.

He continued his whirlwind ride through the fashion world with an introduction in 1987 of “Moschino,” an exquisite oriental fragrance for women. Sometime later, he introduced another floral and fruity fragrance, “Cheap and Chic.” In 1988, Franco Moschino opened his first boutique in Milan, Italy. Located on Via Sant’ Andrea, this boutique also met with public favor.

Moschino began to experiment with environmentally safe products and developed a line devoted to them. This collection was given the name, “Ecouture.” Franco intended it to implement the use of only environmentally friendly dyes and fabrics.

Unfortunately, even though his sense of fashion fun lives on, Franco Moschino died at the early age of 44. Before his death, Franco Moschino established a nonprofit organization to which part of his profits go.

His chief designer, Rosella Jardini with the help of his chief executive, Marco Gobbetti, managed his collections. The fashion house of Moschino is alive and well in Milan, Italy today. His extravagant sense of fashion style continues to be displayed and offered to the public.
