Uses of Quartz Crystals

Industrial Uses

Quartz crystals are considered one of the hardest substances on Earth, they are harder than a steel file, and that property has made them ideal for industrial uses. Not only is quartz hard, they also will not split easily. They can also transmit ultraviolet light. Electric currents can also pass through Quartz and if you apply pressure to a quartz crystal you can actually cause it to generate a very small electric charge on its own.

You will find quartz crystal being used in laboratory tubes and crucibles, ordinary glass, foundry molds and construction work, as a filter, crafted into a special lenses or prism and quartz glass tubes for lamps as well as in radios, televisions, radars and digital watches. Quartz is also a very important component of sandstone, quartzite and granite all of which are building stones.

Gemstones

Some of the most beautiful jewelry in the world is made with quartz crystals. With more than 20 different types of quartz all having their own coloring makes them ideal stone to place in rings, necklaces and earrings.

Healing

A use of quartz crystals that may not be as well known is that they are also used for healing. Many people believe that every home should have quartz crystals or quartz clusters to help promote harmony within the home.

The clear quartz crystal is the quartz of choice when it comes to healing. People of ancient times consider quartz to be a very sacred stone. The mirror like quality of the clear crystal allows things to be seen more clearly. Quartz crystals are natural receivers and transmitters of energy and they also symbolize white light energy.

The Egyptians used quartz in the pyramids to help attract the power found in light. American Indians cherished the quartz as a scared symbol of light. Tibetan cultures believe that crystals are empowered with the elements and the people carry them to use as a form of protection.

Other Uses

Quartz crystals are also used in meditations, chakra balancing, and in changing bad vibrations. They are used to enhance the life force within all of us and believe it or not people have even placed quartz crystals in a glass of water and then drank the water for the health benefits.

Elemental Meanings

As stated earlier, there are about 20 different types of quartz. Each has its own color. For some it may be important to know what each color or shade is good for. If the quartz is pale to medium yellow it is tied more closely with the element of air.

Orange and red gemstones, as well as the quartz that are formed by fire such as Obsidian are associated with the element of fire. Brilliant green and those that are blue are associated with the element of water. If the quartz is dull green or mossy or brown in color then these are associated with the earth. Finally if the quartz is clear or purple it is tied to the spirit.
